IC3 – Intelligent Cutlery

If you’re careful about what and how much you it, than IC3 is the perfect gadget for you. It’s made-up of a computerized handle and 3 interchangeable eating tools: a fork, a knife and a spoon, each with their own special features. The fork measures food composition, such as fat, sugar or protein levels, the spoon weighs your bites and the knife acts as a thermometer, taking temperature readings from your food. Together these three do a great job of replacing the normal nutritionist.

The IC3 Cutlery has been presented and is still on display at the Designparcours 2008 exhibition in Munich, Germany.

The Sound of WW2

German designer Markus Kison invented a device that lets people experience the atmosphere of WW 2 nowadays.

Set up in the German city of Dresden, Markus Kison‘s so-called time machine takes people back to the 13th of February  1945 when bombs were dropping all over the city and the whole country was in chaos. But the most remarkable thing about Kison‘s invention is the way it operates. It’s not just some ordinary siren that emits sounds of bombing, it operates in complete silence. People just have to put their elbows on the iron fence on witch the device is installed and cover their ears with their palms. The sound is transmitted through vibrations that make their way through the bones until they reach the ears.

Fascinating invention by Markus Kison!

Heatherwick Rolling Bridge

When the Heatherwick Rolling Bridge is in its horizontal position, there’s nothing remotely strange about it, just another steel and wood-made bridge in London. But that all changes when it curves up until its two ends touch, to let boats pass. When curled, Heatherwick Bridge resembles an old watermill wheel.

Heatherwick Studio’s Rolling Bridge opens every Friday at noon but if the winds exceed 30 mph, the hidraulics may be unable to handle them, so the bridge doesn’t open.

Crazy Self-Sustainable Chair

Created by Korean artist JooYoun Paek, the self-sustainable chair is a polyethylene-made dress, connected to a pair of special pair of shoes that pump air into the dress, with every step you take. After a short walk, the dress inflates in the back forming a nice “little” chair that makes it possible for you to stop, sit on it and rest for a bit. Depending on the wearer’s weight, the dress deflates allowing him to carry on with his walk.

The self-sustainable dress is an artistic concept that “motivates people to switch between walking and sitting  as a loop behavior on the street”. One couldn’t actually use the self-sustainable chair on a day-to-day basis, it makes you look like you just arrived from another planet.

Here’s a test-drive of the self-sustainable chair in New York:

Latest technology in automated agriculture

That’s right folks, if you were lucky enough to stumble across this article, you have the privilege of seeing the latest technology in automated agriculture at work. This invaluable tool comes all the way from Belarus, a country that apparently spares no effort when it comes to investing in new technology.

This revolutionary agricultural device is a state-of-the-art cucumber harvester that uses the newly discovered power of people on their bellies. That’s right, people sitting on their bellies being pulled by a tractor. It’s simple and effective and I for one can’t wait to get my hands on one, cucumber harvesting will never be the same again.

I wish I lived in Belarus (sigh).

Home-made Star-Wars Landspeeder

Daniel Deutsch is one of those Star-Wars fans that likes to create memorabilia of the series in his own garage. So he decided to build the X-34 Landspeeder used in Star-Wars parts 1 and 4 using any materials he could find and his extraordinary talent. The speeder has the exact size of the original and it’s built out of glassfibre on a custom chassis. It has an electric motor that pushes the X-34 to a max speed of 25 miles per hour and can go a few miles on a single battery charge.

The X-34 Star-Wars Landspeeder took 6 weeks to build and it was first unveilled at a Star Wars Celebration in May 2007.

Real “War of the Worlds” Tripod

It’s not every day that you come face to face with one of the most infamous alien contraptions ever. Actually you could walk past one if you live in Woking, the home town of H.G. Wells, where a Tripod sculpture rules over the town square.

This amazing 23-feet-high Tripod was built by Michael Condron in 1998 to celebrate the centenary of “War of the Worlds” together with the first alien capsule to hit Earth, half buried into the ground. As you can see the design of the Tripod is simply amazing, it looks like it’s about to wake up and starting zapping people.

Scientists use sea-lions to fight global warming

There’s been a lot of speculations regarding the melting of arctic ice due to global warming, which spells disaster for all living beings, so scientists have decided to conduct some serios investigations and learn if there’s any real danger.

Sea-lions will play a serious part in the gathering of important data about the status of the ice, water temperature and climate change. A few specimens have been caught on the coast of South Georgia and a sensor with a special antenna has been strapped to their heads. When the animals swim in Arctic waters scientists will receive information vital to our survival.

You too can be Ironman

All you have to do is convince the creator of this suit sell it to you. That’s no easy feat though since he’s a die-hard fan of Marvel‘s character and he only created it as a tribute to the comic hero.

This is definitely the best looking home-made superhero suit I’ve ever seen, it’s made out of fiberglass and flexible plastic. The suit gloves are made out of rubber foam. The Ironman mask comes with see-through lenses that allow the wearer to see clearly but don’t reveal his eyes. The costume is also hand-painted in the classic colors.

The Ironman armor would be perfect for a person 6.2 feet tall, 220 lbs. in weight and with a 35inch waistline.

I have to hand it to the creator of the suit, even Ironman himself would be impressed.
