It doesn’t happen as often as it would if the fight was actually fair, but it’s nice to see the underdog win for a change.
Israel Lancho had the misfortune of getting impaled by a bull, last Wednesday, in Madrid. The bull’s horn went in 8 inches and doctors said it was a miracle that it didn’t hit the matador’s heart. 30-year-old Israel is now recuperating. I wonder if he’s ever going to go into the bull-ring again.
UPDATE: One of our visitors left a comment saying the matador died of complications. That is not true, but, while he received medical attention, the bull did in fact die as a result of his wounds. Others said this is tradition and should be accepted as such…Well, the shearing of the beasts, donkey basketball, Grindadrap or Afghan dog-fights are also old traditions, but I refuse to respect them.

What are you talking about? The English are called a nation of animal lovers. You don’t get bull fighting there or in Germany! Where are you from? The US? I suppose there’s absolutely no animal cruelty there at all? Instead of sitting on your couch making ridiculous comments about a subject on which you clearly have no information, why not go outdoors and have a look at the world as it really is!
Oh, and while bull fighting is completely beyond the pale as far as I’m concerned, people rejoicing in the terrible injuries this man has received and wishing him a painful death are total hypocrites. Get real – do you know what you sound like?

I’m spanish, I live in Spain and what some dude up there said is very true: those bulls possibly live better than any other animal grown for any purpose in the USA. They die in a rather painful way, but then they have years of the most selective and careful threatment behind, being offered top quality food, places to sleep, hygiene and everything.
After reading some of your comments, I think those bulls live way better than most of you do.
I dislike bullfighting and I’ve never supported it, but I can’t stand bullshit. Also, I’m amazed at the scumbag who hoped the matador died. Yeah, let’s hope a PERSON died. Because he or she killed an ANIMAL. The fact that you don’t see your own hypocrisy makes me lose the little faith I had in humanity.

The bull didn’t ask to be put into the position of fighting for his life against unbeatable odds, did he? The matador and the rest of them, though, knew exactly what they were signing up for. Didn’t go quite the way they planned? Well shucks. Too bad the bull didn’t hook him in the testicles; it would have kept him from breeding more people who think torturing animals to death is good fun. And yes, as a matter of fact, I think that the life of an innocent non-human animal is worth _more_ than the life of a bloodthirsty human animal who won’t content himself with having the world at his command, but has to taunt and kill animals to feel like a “man”. Loser.

@Johny of June 3rd- You have no idea what that man’s belief is. What gives you any right to judge him?? For that matter, what gives you the right to judge anyone? Atheists are people just like the rest of us. We probably possess a bit more logic than you, though. A belief system doesn’t make one person better than another. And as far as animals being dirty and non-sentient, in case you forgot, humans ARE animals. We belong to Mammalia- just like that bull. Some biology wouldn’t kill you. Maybe a little tolerance too.
That matador had what’s coming to him. Torturing a bull is wrong. Torturing any animal is wrong. It’s a shame that the human race resorts to such barbaric activities for entertainment. I’m sure people wouldn’t be nearly as tolerant of it if it was a person, now would they? I don’t care if that bull had the best life in the world- he still suffered in a completely inhumane and primitive way.

I’m glad the bull won, and I don’t care much for the rules they follow now (because it’s ‘lose/lose’ for the bull) they should allow any stud who wins like this one to breed freely with any and every cow it chooses until it dies.

It is horrible and that poor bull has to go through so much. They torture it and then kill it. Killing any animal for any reason is a crime in my book. Even for food, thats why I’m a vegitarian, I couldn’t bear the thought of having a poor animal die for my dinner…
I completely agree. The air is toxic, the water is fluoriated, our food is processed in laboratories, cancer, diabetes and heart disease are higher than ever before and people are all worried about bulls. We’re killing ourselves doesn’t that bother you people????
I’ll tell you this, I care more about you and your kids health than I would ever care about a bull.
Anyone who’s actually been to a real bullfight would understand that its a real fight to the death. Its very dangerous and the matadors are often injured but apparently rarely killed. This would happen a lot more often if the matadors weren’t so good at what they do. I’m not saying that I’m for this type of thing but I will say that the people who do this have a hell of a lot more respect for the animals than some guy at a McDonald’s cattle farm.
Personally, if I were a bull I would rather go out fighting than in a meat grinder, so I don’t think bull fighting is evil, just cruel; still, way to go BULL! And I agree with Phil E. Drifter above, this bull SHOULD be enjoying the good life right now.

People need to stop giving a pass to barbarism under the guise of “protecting tradition.” There are a boatload of traditions that we no longer practice that no one expects us to follow: slavery, women as property, child labor, inequalities in the voting booth, etc etc. These were done away with because they’re barbaric. If this man put himself in this position I am not going to sympathize with his suffering. I agree with many that bullfighting is cruel to the animals and should stop. It’s unfortunate that many humans still fail to recognize the vast similarities between animals and us. Animals have “feelings”, just like we do. Have you read a biology book lately? It’s also unfortunate that many people here think that upholding “tradition” is more important than using our collective knowledge to make decisions. “Tradition” is often rooted in incorrect beliefs that were wildly held at times, but have been proven wrong since then by knowledge we have gained/discovered. As we as a collective human race continue to learn more, we must leave our beliefs and “traditions” open to change.

Ok, so to those of you who are saying this is a sacred sport, let’s stab you through the torso a few times and put a rubber band around your balls then force you to fight some middle school kids. We’ll call it a sport. I don’t give a shit what it means to who, bull fighting is just plain cruel. It wouldn’t be so bad (though it’d still be awful) if they didn’t cripple the poor critters before the fight even started, but they do. It’s absolutely despicable.
