3,2,1 launch piglet!

This is apparently how they used to test new inventions in the Soviet Union during the 50s and 60s (at least that’s when these photos are taken). In this experiment they got that little pig drunk by forcing it to drink wine (Kagor, maybe you heard of it) and launching it into the air using some kind of giant mortar cannon. Some of you might find it funny, but I just think it’s cruel.

I guess animal cruelty and animal testing are old issues that aren’t going away anytime soon…

well, actually these are images of russian short movie from 2006, i think it was called “flying pig” or something like that. the pig was shot in CGI and those funny hats are actually protective helmets used by tank crews.

Well, actually it’s a part of a russian mocumentary (fake documentary) called “First On The Moon”. So, obviously, it’s fake.

Anyway, even if it were true I don’t think they would have had to force-feed the pig any alcohol. Many animals are rather keen to ingest alcohol (and other psychotropic drugs!) – for example, if memory serves, tigers are keen to eat fermented durian fruits. More info can be found in the great book “Intoxication” by Ronald K. Siegel.
