It’s official, Americans love owning guns, pics speak for themselves…
Professional photographer, Kyle Cassidy traveled 15.000 miles over a period of two years, taking pictures of Americans in their own homes and asking one question: “Why do you own a gun? “. To find out the answers you’ll have to read his book Armed America. I wonder if it also answers these questions: “Why do you own so many guns?” or “Why do you own that big-ass gun?”

I LOVE America!
Seriously…
GOD BLESS THE USA!
Yeah? Im from germany and i think that the most americans are idiots with weapons… KILL KILL KILL? Fuck off…
That’s why the americans have all those shootings and killings among students. Idiots are not supposed to carry guns. That’s how the “rambo” phenomenon appeared, and any idiot and looser who doesn’t know what’s 1+1 has “the power” if he carries a gun. Excuse my english, i’m from Romania. We have a lot of idiots here too, but guns are under control. Still. Unfortunatelly, we want to be more like the USA. Why, i don’t know.
I can admit i’m soon to be a gun-toter as well… Just left the gun shop with intentions of placing an order on a brand new AR-15..
smh…
The Second Amendment of the United States Constitution’s Bill of Rights declares a well-regulated militia as “being necessary to the security of a free State” and prohibits infringement of “the right of the people to keep and bear arms.”
This amendment is what allows Americans the ability to take back control from the Government in the event that the “People” need to due to the government infringing on the wrights of the people.
The first thing Stalin did was take the guns from the people then massacred tens of millions of his own citizens.
Hitler did the same and it has occurred many other times in history.
Yes America has a crime issue and that is due to allot of sociological problems and guns do not kill without a person pulling the trigger. In America felons are not allowed to bear arms however “felons” traditionally do not follow the law.
If you are a law abiding citizen it is a “god given” right to have the ability to protect yourself and your family. American has a lot of problems however I have a permit to carry a weapon at all times and take full responsibility for the safety of myself and family. In other countries you cannot say the same!
What youre average joe should do with a AK, AR 15 or a combat shotgun I cant understand. Europe and large parts of Asia ond South America functions perfectly without an 15 heavey wepons per house. Even youre average soldier isnt armed with that kind of firepower…
And thath last guy got ammop for what looks like an .50 Cal/12,7 mm Heavy machine gun…
WTF?
“…God given right?” I must be reading a different
Bible. To each his own. One time I read about a little
old Lady down in Texas, toting her Big gun in her
pocketbook.84 yrs old, She was so proud, always showing
it off. It was her ‘right’. Her attacker easily took
it from her and shot her point blank in the face.
“[In] Europe and large parts of Asia and South America … Even your average soldier isn’t armed with that kind of firepower”
Exactly… If necessary the private citizens of America could capably defend ourselves in our homeland, how many other countries can say the same?
Defend yourselves against what exactly?
all of these people are white.
what can we conclude from this?
matt.
Only Tyrants and criminals need to fear
armed citizens. Yes, America has crime,
but the places with the LEAST gun control
have the least crime.
The Second Amendment is a ridiculous throw back to the Civil War and the War of Independence and has no place in modern America, and most gun toters know it. I always find it amazing when these militias talk about the time when the people are going to ‘rise up’ against the government! Wake up, how many liberties (including other far more important emendments to the constitution) does your government need to take away from you before you do anything? Obviously all the guns shown above have made no change at all – you are all a bunch of scared little children!
“the places with the LEAST gun control have the least crime” – can you back that up with any evidence? I doubt it, what a ridiculous sound bite piece of crap – you’ve been reading too many bumper stickers!
Apparently there a lot of half heads in America who don know to count but can shoot guns, thats a weird equation that proves they can’t use it responsibly.
I believe in preserving our constitutional rights. I like freedom, dont you?
i wonder how many misfires occured in his house??
and i would not be trying to rob his house,
new rule, you get bullets when you can count how many your gun can hold
Most Americans are idiots? Just like most Germans are Nazis right?
Here are some facts for you a little old but ill find somthing a bit more current for you i you persits to be a knoledgless ass!The number of well-publicized public shootings during the past few years, especially the tragedy at Columbine High School, has re-energized the gun control movement. As a show of strength, a coalition of gun control groups has organized a “Million Mom March” to be held in Washington, D.C. on Mother’s Day, an event designed to stir up emotions rather than promote rational thought. And when one looks at the facts about gun control, it’s easy to see why the anti-gun lobby relies on emotion rather than logic to make its case.
Think you know the facts about gun control? If your only source of information is the mainstream media, what you think you know may not be correct. Take the quiz below and test your knowledge.
1. Thousands of children die annually in gun accidents.
David Lampo is the publications director at the Cato Institute.
False. Gun accidents involving children are actually at record lows, although you wouldn’t know it from listening to the mainstream media. In 1997, the last year for which data are available, only 142 children under 15 years of age died in gun accidents, and the total number of gun-related deaths for this age group was 642. More children die each year in accidents involving bikes, space heaters or drownings. The often repeated claim that 12 children per day die from gun violence includes “children” up to 20 years of age, the great majority of whom are young adult males who die in gang-related violence.
2. Gun shows are responsible for a large number of firearms falling into the hands of criminals.
False. Contrary to President Clinton’s claims, there is no “gun show loophole.” All commercial arms dealers at gun shows must run background checks, and the only people exempt from them are the small number of non-commercial sellers. According to the U.S. Department of Justice, at most 2 percent of guns used by criminals are purchased at gun shows, and most of those were purchased legally by people who passed background checks.
3. The tragedy at Columbine High School a year ago illustrates the deficiencies of current gun control laws.
False. Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold violated close to 20 firearms laws in amassing their cache of weapons (not to mention the law against murder), so it seems rather dubious to argue that additional laws might have prevented this tragedy. The two shotguns and rifle used by Harris and Klebold were purchased by a girlfriend who would have passed a background check, and the TEC-9 handgun used by them was already illegal.
4. States that allow registered citizens to carry concealed weapons have lower crime rates than those that don’t.
True. The 31 states that have “shall issue” laws allowing private citizens to carry concealed weapons have, on average, a 24 percent lower violent crime rate, a 19 percent lower murder rate and a 39 percent lower robbery rate than states that forbid concealed weapons. In fact, the nine states with the lowest violent crime rates are all right-to-carry states. Remarkably, guns are used for self-defense more than 2 million times a year, three to five times the estimated number of violent crimes committed with guns.
5. Waiting periods lower crime rates.
False. Numerous studies have been conducted on the effects of waiting periods, both before and after the federal Brady bill was passed in 1993. Those studies consistently show that there is no correlation between waiting periods and murder or robbery rates. Florida State University professor Gary Kleck analyzed data from every U.S. city with a population over 100,000 and found that waiting periods had no statistically significant effect. Even University of Maryland anti-gun researcher David McDowell found that “waiting periods have no influence on either gun homicides or gun suicides.”
6. Lower murder rates in foreign countries prove that gun control works.
False. This is one of the favorite arguments of gun control proponents, and yet the facts show that there is simply no correlation between gun control laws and murder or suicide rates across a wide spectrum of nations and cultures. In Israel and Switzerland, for example, a license to possess guns is available on demand to every law-abiding adult, and guns are easily obtainable in both nations. Both countries also allow widespread carrying of concealed firearms, and yet, admits Dr. Arthur Kellerman, one of the foremost medical advocates of gun control, Switzerland and Israel “have rates of homicide that are low despite rates of home firearm ownership that are at least as high as those in the United States.” A comparison of crime rates within Europe reveals no correlation between access to guns and crime.
The basic premise of the gun control movement, that easy access to guns causes higher crime, is contradicted by the facts, by history and by reason. Let’s hope more people are catching on.
It never ceases to amaze me how quick people are to say things in the vein of, “Im from germany and i think that the most americans are idiots with weapons.” Thank you for your enlightened view of the state of things.
Please expound on which one of those photographs shows someone who looks like a criminal? Has the guy with three walls of guns gone overboard? Maybe, but I wonder how many of those pieces are collectible. Guns don’t breed violence, culture does; and the problem with American culture is it’s glorification of violence in music, movies, television, comics… If you want to effect actual change in American violence you might try rating the movies that show evisceration with an R, instead of the movies that shows a pair of tits.
Furthermore, if you believe that the Second Amendment doesn’t belong in the Constitution, go ahead and start your petition (also protected). No one ever said that the Constitution was perfect, but I’d be much more goddamned likely to support a framework for governance that supports my right to self defense than one that retroactively repeals that right.
Oh yeah.. Amuricanns are stupid! Durka durrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
What I don’t understand is why people have a problem with others legally owning guns. You really think criminals that use guns are going to purchase them legally? I can understand assault weapons bans and everything. But who cares if someone who purchased a shotgun, bolt action rifle, or handgun legally (including background check and waiting period) posses them? I’m not some gun crazed Republican from the South either. I’m a “liberal” from NYC.
I’d like to know what percentage of gun owners have actually used their guns in home defense. I’d also like to know why they think they need so many guns, when it’s obvious they only need a few at most.
Heck, I can’t imagine how much money is wasted every year on the overproduction of firearms and ammunition. Everyone wastes their time and money on useless investments and then they wonder why the economy is a pile of crap. Go USA!
Guns Are Stupid.
Right off the bat, a Romanian and a German in favor of ONLY THE STATE having guns.
…When did they stop teaching history Europe?
The guy with the bible and guns is kind of scary I have to say.
In guns we thrust… I am a proud owner off a 12 ga. shootgun and i just love it…
Best regards from Denmark.
