I have seen deer swim about a mile across rivers.  
Look like that one was a bit lost.

		<description>The only unusual part of this story is that the deer made it so far offshore. Deer frequently take to open water to escape a dog, and they usually drown when they become too exhausted to keep their heads above the surface. A good point for keeping dogs controlled, even in rural areas.</description>

		<description>it has velet antlets just sprouting from head,so its most likely a buck.some does do have antlers,although rare.deer are really pretty good swimmers.but from the look of the pics,this one was in dire straights</description>
