Geoducks are sometimes called giant clams, due to the fact that they are a rather large mollusk. However, Geoducks species name is Panopea abrupt, whereas Giant clams’ species name is Tridacna gigas. They are related, but they aren’t even of the same genus. Just “Google” the name “Giant clam” and you’ll see. In fact, the worlds’ largest pearl came from Tridacna gigas. It is often referred to as “The Pearl of Allah”, because of its’ striking resemblance to a man with a beard wearing a turban. We are just getting ready to head up for this year's tide. It is beyond just the clam. There is camping, butter clamming, wild greens harvesting, oystering, family, friends, and just the whole entire gestalt of the experience. One definitely harvests geoducks for the entire experience.
