Taking a swim in the Devil’s Pool

If you’re ever in Zimbabwe, don’t miss the chance to take a swim in The Devil’s Pool, a small lagoon, enclosed by rocks, on the edge of one of the biggest, most beautiful waterfalls in the world, Victoria Falls. Set on Livingstone Island, at a height of 103 meters, Devil’s Pool is definitely one of the most surreal locations on Earth.

I have fished in the Zambesi among the hippo’s, close to the pool but you would not get me in the water.

  2. solidamerica says:

That was very impressive, but dangerous game too!! I hope they really enjoyed and got safe home too. Costa Rica has some waterfalls too, maybe you want to see them with solidamerica.com.

  3. Megan says:

I’m terrified of heights. I could never do that.

  4. amy says:

i may only be 15 but the aduls who take thier children on this are frankly stupid and are not looking after thier children. imean how would they feel if their child just sliped over the edge they would never forgive themselves, i think that this is wrong.

  5. John says:

The pool is actually accessed from the Zambian side of the river. For most of the year, anyone venturing into Devil’s Pool would be swept over the edge by the raging torrent in a heartbeat. But during the dry season, the waters of the Zambezi River slow enough that bathers can swim in relative safety.

  11. Brandy says:

I know it’s not dangerous since they let people do it but it seems like it WOULD be dangerous- the rocks look so slippery.

  12. brahim says:

it s panoramic view with a splashing water that i use to hear when the water fall down . hey there is not only the devils-pool but the devils rock as well in morocoo it s a spot for the surfer.

  13. oki says:

Kids are smart, they won’t go over. Kids know how to hold on tight. :3

And I bet there’s not much water pressure for whatever reason, because that’s the only way that first guy would ever be posing like that. It looks sort of like.. leaning over a balcony or something. But I still wouldn’t be able to stand on the edge like that second dude, personally. *A*

    What a crazy place!

  14. Greg says:

Wow those are some wild pictures! I don’t think I would get so close to the edge as they are.

  15. Ashley says:

I feel sick butI would love to go there.

  16. Jessica says:

Even though it looks super crazy, I would still want to go there; I am afraid of heights too! Those are some beautiful pics!

  17. Pokin says:

I love waterfalls. Looks like it would be such an amazing place to visit. I’m scared of heights so I don’t know that I’d go as close as what some of the people did, but wow what an experience!

  18. Do you know where I can find the best colorado flies?

  19. Linda Adams says:

  20. joe says:

that looks safe..if gion to try it!

  21. georgie says:

I don’t get why all of these people call this so ‘dangerous.’ Live a little already. It’s a still-water pool and common sense shows if you don’t jump off of it, you’re not going to fall. If you’re a good parent you watch your kids anyway, so calling them ‘crazy’ for letting their kids in with them must mean you people leaving comments must not take care of your children very well!

  22. Is this safe??? How are those people not falling off the edge?

  23. KB says:

I had seen this on TV some time ago but my wife sent this link to me and I must agree with her when she says….”NOT NO, HELL NO!”

  24. Jason says:

Devil’s Pond looks like an incredible place and yet another reason to visit Africa. Thanks for posting the vertigo inducing photos!

  25. Ashley says:

The edge that keeps the thrill seekers from falling over to their death will eventually give way to the water pressure, the rocks will slide or they will dislodge…The Falls have receded several miles over millions of years, so this is FACT. It is certain that one or more people will eventually slip or otherwise fall to their deaths.

It is stupid to say that “it must be safe otherwise why would they let people do it”…take bungee jumping for example…skydiving…those things are NOT fool proof and plenty of people die each year.

I’m not against this, I just don’t think its smart to say that there’s no danger involved. And if I let my kids do it, I would want safety procedures taken, such as harness and rope tied to them, secured to land…

  26. WarChild77 says:

Damn. No Way!! I terrified of waterfalls and dams. you ain’t getting me near that thing!!

  27. mary sky says:

  29. Wow what an amazing place. It would make me a little nervous, but if you have the chance you have to get in.

  30. Dave says:

Truly incredible and is now on my list of places to visit.

  31. Now I understand why it is called the devil pool. Just looking at the picture makes me need to take a deep breath. I think it’s crazier than bungee jumping but I love to visit there before I die. hehehe…

  32. Ronald Baro says:
