Now you can see what human rainbows look like.

Holi or Phagwa is a Hindu spring festival that takes place every year in India and Nepal. On the first day of celebrations, bonfires are lit, signifying the burning of the demoness Holika. On the second day, the real Festival of Colors begins; spring and the change of weather are believed to bring illnesses like fever, flews and colds, so people throw colored powders, with medicinal significance, to chase away these illnesses. The powder can now be bought from marketplaces, but there are still those who make it in the comfort of their own homes, using various plants and flowers that give it a mesmerizing fragrance.

The Festival of Colors usually takes place at the end of February or the beginning of March, depending on when the full moon occurs.

Yep, looks like they’re having a lot of fun, however Muslims might not look so gracefully upon such actions, as they despise usually paintings of the face, like even Clown Masks.

Such a happening could result in a horrible blood-bath.

These pictures (which only suggest what it would be like in a crowd of thousands of parrot colored people) are wonderful.

Then the blue haired ministress of no-fun in my mind says: But are those dyes safe to get in one’s eyes or stay on one’s skin - particularly the magenta one? Hard to believe that they are harmless.

Erm… yes? Seriously, no one was talking about Muslims. The article itself was talking about a Hindu holiday and practice. To be honest, it does sound very fun and I’d love to be around when that happens one day, part of my beliefs or not.

And it’s technically not face painting, nor is it exactly intended as face paint. You try throwing around powder without getting some on you.

These pictures are amazing. I live in Pakistan, and there are many festivals like these carried out here. These festivals are held, organised and attended by Muslims. The Muslim community in my part of the world is now very much tolerant to festivals like these.

I was able to attend this festival when i travelled to India..it was just as awesome as it looks! We mostly stayed in our hotel and threw these powders at each other and the other Indian and non-Indian guests; everyone took part and it was so fun, and very beautiful. On the streets it was a bit scarier because kids put coloured water in water guns and then ambush you…it’s a bit like halloween with eggs and roman candles; fun but with a hint of violence. Anyways all in all the festival is a gorgeous celebration to be a part of.

Why are people mentioning Muslims? These are Hindus. You people are such uncultured swine that it’s just mind-boggling. Turn off your television and pick up a fucking book once in a while, you intellectually incurious fools.

You’re an idiot, muslims and hindus coexist in the same country. There are a lot of muslims in india. India owns a large portion of predominately muslim land and Hindus and Indian occasionally like to kill each other. In fact thats the very reason that pakistan and india would like to nuke each other.

That said, Muslims in this area are the minority and have learned to deal with stuff that would otherwise offend the muslims in other countries.
