Amazing. We have a ton of columnar basalt here in Idaho, but you’ll be lucky to see a 10′ section in one piece. In fact, there’s lots of money in providing 1-3 foot sections of that basalt for all sorts of landscaping purposes.

I can’t believe that sort of grand scale formation, except that I know it makes perfect geologic sense…

You can also find basalt columns in Yellowstone National Park as well as Eastern Washington State and Oregon. They are amazing, some in E. Washington are like giant halls of columns you can walk through.
