Visual proof of global warming

The melting of Briksdal Glacier in photos shot over the years.

Briksdal Glacier used to be the largest glacier on the European mainland, in Norway. But due to global warming it has been reduced to a mere shadow of its former self. Once a great tourist attraction of the Scandinavian peninsula, Briksdal Glacier is now no longer available for glacier tours. As you can see from the photos the effects of global warming are undeniable and they say you can here the ice melting because of the caverns formed between the glacier and the rocks. It’s a tragedy, but, as always, nobody gives a damn and no one with some real power does anything about it.

How do you know this is proof of global warming? Just asking…

  2. Sean says:

There are glaciers growing in other parts of the world at the rate of tons of ice a year. Not that that means much of anything. It is irresponsible to say that one glacier melting is “visual proof” for global warming. Around fifty glaciers in New Zealand are growing, as well as others around the world.

    interesting.

  4. Well, global warming does lead to another ice age eventually. It makes sense that other glaciers would be growing, so long as they are in the correct regions of the world.

  5. Sean, irresponsible is making a claim like you did and providing zero proof to back it up.

That actual facts are quite contrary to the image you are trying to portray.

while i do not doubt global warming is a reality, these pictures, in themselves, are not proof of global warming. these pictures are proof that the glacier is getting smaller, which is assumed to be a by-product of global warming, but not proven to be. although i fully agree that this is most likely a product of global warming, from these pictures alone we do not know for certain that the warming is a localized event (due to under ground hot springs or something) or if it is a global event.
i wouldn’t go so far as to say that it was “irresponsible”, it is, technically, in correct to say that these pictures are proof.
