Dutch Artist Brings Stained Glass Art into the 21st Century With Pop Culture Themes

Arjan Boeve, aka ‘Above’, is a talented artist credited for bringing the old craft of stained glass-making into the 21st century by incorporating modern themes that the general public resonates with.

Stained glass is usually associated with religion, particularly with old churches and cathedrals, but through his project, Stained-Glass Geek, Dutch artist Arjan Boeve is showing younger generations that stained glass has a place in the modern world. Boeve’s stained glass stands out both because of its exquisite quality and crisp lines, but also because of its modern themes, including iconic video game, cartoon and anime characters like Mickey Mouse, Super Mario or Dragon Ball’s Vegeta.

Motherboard Stained Glass Window Is Fit for a Geek Church

Remember those cool Transformer stained glass windows we featured, a while back? Well, the idea of unusual stained glass seems to have caught on pretty well, as people are coming up with the most interesting ideas.

The latest example is a stonemason, named Dan, who used some old motherboards, donated by a friend, to create a really cool stained glass window. He actually used his creation on one of his projects, integrating the motherboard stained glass in a sandstone tracery window. Apparently, it has a “good vs. evil” theme going on.

Stained Glass Fit for Transformers Church

Timothy Miller, known as AutobotWonko, on DeviantArt, creates stained glass artworks, inspired by popular franchises, like Transformers.

So far he has created the Autobot and Decepticon stained glass emblems, as well as portraits of Autobots BumbleBee and Optimus Prime. If anyone finally decides to start a Transformers church (I know I’d join) at leas we know what they’re going to use for windows.Maybe Timothy can make another stained glass painting of Optimus plunging a spear into Megatron, or something like that.
