For such a huge fan of Superman™, spending (what I assume to be) tens of thousands of dollars over the years trying to look like The Man of Steel, you’d think it’d occur to him to do a few crunches and pushups. Jeez.

Mark, being a Superman fanatic IS who he is. He IS being himself. Why criticize someone so harshly for doing what makes them happy, if it isn’t affecting you or anyone else? And if your concern is the money being used for purposes YOU deem more ‘suitable,’ you can simply take all of your expendable income and every dime you would spend on entertainment and other objects that aren’t absolutely necessary to be alive, and donate it to a charity. Problem solved! Good job you. Now go sell your computer.

I’m perturbed by the psychiatrist saying this could be body dysmorphic disorder. BDD is not when you really like something and want to look like it. BDD is not what this is. This is extreme fandom. And honestly? It could’ve turned out worse. I think he’s got quite the handsome face, now, what does it matter if it was artificially created? Why does that bother people so much in the year 2011? But if a woman wants a breast augmentation, that’s not creepy at all, right?

I’m a big Superman fan too, about to purchase the newest Christopher Reeve 12″ Hot Toys figures, but that’s about it; nothing close to what Herbert has nor has done.

It’s tough living in the Philippines, finding a job is very difficult, and with Herbert being able to do this stuff…he’s probably from a wealthy family. If it makes him happy, then so be it. But the reporters noted that too much of it can be a problem. The first thing that came to my mind is Michael Jackson’s face. Hey, it’s all good with this guy, he’s got his own thing going … but like you said Mark, that money could have been used to help the community.

Sad..He should have stayed himself… A fool and weak since he thinks being or looking like Superman will make him happy. He needs help to resolve issues of not loving himself.. It doesn’t make perfect sense that he suffers from “Body Dysmorphic Disorder, a mental illness in which a person can’t stop thinking about a flaw with their appearance.” In the end he just wasted time and money on an obsession… Be yourself!
