Light and dark, yin and yang, are both essential and necessary parts of nature.

It is a theme that appears in so many places that you could well call it a universal truth. A similar message in the Bible can be found in the book of Ecclesiastes, Chapter 3. Everything under heaven has its proper time and place.

And that is why learning, wisdom, compassion, and forethought are so important. How will we know what needs to be done, if we can not be sure of the ultimate outcomes of our actions? This is why the sages of the Tao prefer inaction to action.
