Chinese culture in some ways seems harsh in comparison with our standards. I was very involved in Chinese culture during my martial arts years, and one thing that seemed quite common even amongst Chinese from different regions and of different classes is a dislike of any kind of infirmity which, in their minds, can include attractiveness. People with handicaps are essentially forced into a separate subculture and world, and they are not supposed to “offend” regular people by displaying their handicaps. Of course not everyone who is Chinese thinks this way; but the general theme was one I witnessed to be fairly consistent as a prejudice amongst many.

Here’s a start: The ties that bind a functioning family transcend shit like how you look. If this son rejects his mother for some reason other than her looks then he should be honest, and be challenged to be honest. This guy who rejects his well meaning mother is obviously a Coward. And it’s not a parent’s fault that a person acts cowardly. Adults are accountable for themselves and cannot point to those who raised them for their own shortcomings. Get real. Be accountable for yourself.

You reap what you sow. She obviously spoiled the child and never taught him respect for the elders, all the sacrifices they made for him. No tears for the lady. Providing food and shelter is only a part of parenting. Teaching kids values and morality is also important.
