This article mentions my website, so I’m chiming in. Marrying yourself is fun and satisfying. Sometimes you need to say things out loud to really hear them. Weddings can be fraught with politics and lose meaning, so I created a performance art piece to get to the core of the ritual. Lo and behold, I found that people could be really moved by just taking some time to declare a commitment to making things better rather than complaining. Or it an be completely silly and it’s a fun time, but at least you’re conscious of it and it still makes you think.

I’ve married people to themselves as part of a performance art piece (since 2008), but it’s as real as you want it to be. And I do encourage people to clarify their intentions as often as they need and to perform a “wedding to the self” beyond the gallery and festival shows we do. Get a registry or keep it perfectly secret. Hey, it’s your wedding.
