World’s First Aeroponic Desktop Ecosystem Lets You Grow Plants in Midair Without Water or Soil

The Izestee Plant Cultivator is a smart aeroponic ecosystem that allows anyone to grow plants in a transparent container filled with nutrient-infused mist.

Aeroponics, the process of cultivating plants in an air or mist environment without the need for soil or another aggregate medium, has been around for a long time and is considered by many to be the future of plant cultivation. Now, you can experience this fascinating, futuristic-looking process in the comfort of your own home with the world’s first aeroponic desktop ecosystem.

Designed by Yunyi Zheng, the Izestee Plant Cultivator is probably the world’s most advanced flower pot. The transparent cube provides a clear view of the plant’s roots, which are suspended in the air, with no soil or water, just plumes of nutrient-enriched mist pulverized from the bottom of the device.

“With Izestee, plant growth becomes a living show you can observe every day,” the product’s Kickstarter page states. “The cultivator uses a high-transparency PC chamber coated with a hydrophobic layer, ensuring the surface remains clear even under continuous misting. This transparent growth bay removes the need for guesswork — you can directly monitor root behavior in real time: extension speed, branching patterns, nutrient uptake performance, and early signs of decay are all visibly trackable.

Apart from the mist pulverizers at the bottom, the Izestee features a built-in heating system with a maximum temperature of 45°C, three adjustable mist modes that pulverize just the right amount of water for various plants, and a grow light that simulates natural sunlight indoors to stimulate photosynthesis.

The Izestee Plant Cultivator is currently on crowdfunding platform Kickstarter, where it has managed to raise over $138,000 at the time of this writing. You can still pre-order one at a discounted price of $89. Just keep in mind that nothing is guaranteed when you back a project on crowdfunding platforms.

Even if it doesn’t invent aeroponics, there is no denying the wow factor of the Izestree! Seeing the entire plant exposed, developing new roots and growing in front of your eyes, on your desk, is amazing!
