How To Make A Rainbow Cake

Doesn’t look like a very natural cake, I know, but what’s a few chemicals here and there.

i just thought I’d post the images of the whole “making a rainbow cake” process, but if you’re interested in getting the recipe and other pointers on baking one of these babies, visit Omnomicon.

Not sure if I could ever taste anything these colorful, even though it is a light cake, but I’d definitely like to wake up and take a look at it every morning. I’m sure it would brighten up my whole day.

The World’s Largest Cheesecake

55 Mexican cooks worked hard to create the world’s largest cheesecake.

The giant cheesake was presented to the world on january 25, in Mexico City. It took the 55 cooks 60 hours to make, using almost a whole ton of cream cheese, nearly a ton of yogurt, 350 kg of pastry, 250 kg of sugar and 50 kg of butter. The final result was a 2 ton calorie bomb.

This was the first cheesecake record aknowledged by the Guinness Book of Records, so there wasn’t any competition. The  world’s largest cheesecake was sliced into pieces and given to over 20,000 people throughout Mexico City.

Sleeping in a Hamburger

Believe it or not, this delicious looking bed has it’s own page on Facebook.

This fluffy hamburger is actually a cheeseburger (notice the cheesy matress). It has all the right ingredients, including, pickles, letuce and sliced tomatoes, all it needs is a little ketchup. Actually a lot of ketchup, but who cares, the Hamburger Bed looks good enough to eat any way you look at it.

Eating the Bull’s Eye

Instead of hitting the bull’s eye some people choose to eat it.

I can’t believe they sell something as disgusting as a bull’s eye as food in a supermarket. Even more surprising is the fact that there are people who would buy, boil and eat something like that. Sure, it’s a matter of cultural diversity, but damn that bull’s eye looks anything but edible.

Disney Makes Food Now?

Times are hard and the economic crisis is leaving its mark on all of us, but it seems Disney is feeling it the most. As you can see in the photos there are all sorts of Disney foods available for purchase, from pate to a cheap kind of salami, called “parizer”.

These are clearly not original Disney products, just like the Street Fighter energy drink is also clearly a fake, but it’s interesting to see how far some companies can go to sell their merchandise.

Street Fighter Energy Drink

Who knew Street Fighter energy drinks even existed?
I’m a big fan of Street Fighter games and I can’t wait for the fourth installment to be launched this year. I even liked that van Damme movie everyone hated but a Street Fighter energy drink? It’s called Street Fighter Dragon Punch and it’s probably really popular with kids. If Red Bull gives you wings, Dragon Punch knocks you out?

Exotic Delicacies

I must confess I’m a big fan of Asian cuisines, but these photos really kill my appetite. They may be crunchy and full of protein, bugs simply have no place on my menu. If you like’em though, you’ll definitely love these photos:

The Big Eat 2008

British love their minced meat pies so much, they actually invented a contest to see who can eat the most pies in ten minutes time. Kind of like the American hot-dog eating contest, only these minced meat-filled delicacies are a lot harder to gobble-down.

This year The Big Eat took place on November 18, at Wookey Hole and it featured only British contestants. This after in 2007 American Sonya Thomas crossed the ocean to rob the Brits of their pie-eating title. She managed to eat 48 pies with the runner-up managing to swallow 15. This year the organizers wanted to have an English winner so only natives could register.

Denzil Gunner claimed the top prize this year with 41 pies. He got $1000 and a trip to the USA to participate in their various eating contests and, hopefully, humiliate them on their own soil.

World’s Most Expensive Grill

While some love to tune their cars and turn them into eye-candy, others are more passionate about their grills. Like this man here, he spent around $15,000 to make a smoking grill. Complete with high quality speakers, amplifiers and even a touchscreen display, this grill is one of a kind in the whole world. It makes a mean steak too.

IC3 – Intelligent Cutlery

If you’re careful about what and how much you it, than IC3 is the perfect gadget for you. It’s made-up of a computerized handle and 3 interchangeable eating tools: a fork, a knife and a spoon, each with their own special features. The fork measures food composition, such as fat, sugar or protein levels, the spoon weighs your bites and the knife acts as a thermometer, taking temperature readings from your food. Together these three do a great job of replacing the normal nutritionist.

The IC3 Cutlery has been presented and is still on display at the Designparcours 2008 exhibition in Munich, Germany.

The Real Burger King

21-year-old Brad Sciullo of Uniontown is the first person to ever finish eating the monster-burger known as the Beer Barrel Belly Bruiser. The burger itself weighed 15 pounds but with all the toppings (lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, onions, mild banana peppers, mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard and relish)  and the buns, it reached 20,2 pounds. Sure any man could gobble down a delicacy like this but hardly anyone could do it in 5 hours.

Brad Sciullo managed to do it, but it wasn’t easy, as he himself admits: “About three hours into it, things got tough,”and everyone can understand why. But he pushed himself to the edge and manage to finish the whole burger and won a $400 prize, 3 t-shirts, a certificate and “a burger hangover” as the owner od Denny’s Beer Barrel Pub, where the event took place.

Asked why on Earth he decided to eat the giant burger, Sciullo said “I wanted to see if I could.”

The Heart-Attack Restaurant

Taste worth dying for!

That’s the motto of Heart-Attack Grill, a restaurant that prides itself on offering its customers probably the fattest, most dangerous food they’ll ever eat. But, like we all know, the greasiest food is also the tastiest. Heart-Attack Grill‘s menu includes the simple, double, triple and quadruple Bypass Burgers, Flatliner Fries (deep-fried in pure lard), Jolt Cola and no-filter cigarettes.

If you want to put your life on the line to experience the heavenly taste of fat food, all you have to do is travel to Chandler, Arizona, where Heart-Attack Grill is located. In case you do get a heart-attack, there are nurses in the restaurant, the only problem is they have no medical training, they just serve the food and look very hot, but that’s beeter than nothing right?

Masterpiece-Replicas Out of Sliced Salami

Creating art out of food is not always easy, and if that food happens to be sliced salami, well, I’d say you’d have your work cut out for you. But someone managed to create replicas of masterpieces like The Mona Lisa, using only different kinds of salami and baloney, and it turned out pretty good. The guests at this wedding seem to be enjoying it too, or perhaps they’re just really, really hungry.

Food art is all about imagination, and this food-artist has a very rich one, that’s for sure.
