TREKOL – The Floating Car

It may not look as good as your favorite SUVs, but TREKOL 39294 is more special than the usual service utility vehicle. What separates it from other cars is its ability to float on water at a speed of 10 km per hour, allowing scientists to access places they could only get to by boat. The TREKOL 39294 uses 6 unique tubeless tires that allow it to run through sand, snow and marshes without sinking even with 8 people on board and fully loaded.

The TREKOL is road legal, it has a fiberglass body and can withstand temperatures ranging from -60 to +60 degrees Celsius. This monster of a car is environment-friendly, its tires leave no rut and don’t damage the soil ( the pressure on the soil is between 0,1-0,4 kilos per square centimeter).

The Most Dangerous Walk to School

If you feel your kid has it tough because he lives a long way from school, take a look at these photos. The kids of Gulucan village in Western China have to walk a steep trail carved in a 5000m high cliff in order to reach their school. Compared to these poor children, your offspring has it good.

Chocolate Hills of The Philippines

Located on the island of Bohol, in the Philippines, lies a special attraction called The Chocolate Hills. It consists of 1268 cone-like hills spread over 50 square kilometers. The hills are green until the end of the dry season and then become chocolate brown, hence the name Chocolate Hills.

These limestone hills have a height between 30m and 120m and they are mainly concentrated in the center of Bohol Island. there are many theories of they were formed,  some say they are the results of coral deposits rising, while others say they were shaped by erosion and strong winds.

Legend says The Chocolate Hills are the rocks thrown by two giants that competed in a rock throwing chalenge to prove which one was stronger. They threw large boulders for several days after which they became friends and left the island together leaving the rocks as proof of their competition.

Wetas – The Giant Crickets

Cook Strait Giant Wetas are a species of giant insects that grow to be 10cm long and around 27 grams heavy. Just so you can get an idea, these bugs are about the size of a city rat. They have been extinct on the mainland of New Zealand for more than a century, but the authorities are trying to reintroduce the species to the area, and the first 100 Wetas have been brought to Kraori Wildlife Sanctuary in Wellington, in 2007.

You may think Giant Wetas are hideous and dangerous but the truth is they are passive creatures that feed on fruit and plant and they are less destructive than their smaller cricket brethren. The Wetas are protected from rats and stoats that led to their extinction 100 years ago.

World’s Most Expensive Grill

While some love to tune their cars and turn them into eye-candy, others are more passionate about their grills. Like this man here, he spent around $15,000 to make a smoking grill. Complete with high quality speakers, amplifiers and even a touchscreen display, this grill is one of a kind in the whole world. It makes a mean steak too.

Bottle Temple in Thailand

Wat Pa Maha Kaew Temple is the only temple in the world build out of glass bottles and bottle caps. It all began in 1984 when the Buddhist monks started gathering bottles to decorate their shelters. The lovely bottle art-work they created attracted more and more visitors that began donating bottles, until there were enough to build an entire building.

Translated as “Temple of Million BottlesWat Pa Maha Kaew is located  in Siasaket province, about 370 miles northeast of Thailand’s capital city, Bangkok. There are approximately 1,5 millionglass bottles incorporated in the temple complex, that includes glass shelters, crematorium and even glass toilets.

The bottles make for a surprisingly easy to maintain building material, they let the light in and they don’t fade. The monks are still collecting glass bottles to build even more structures at Wat Pa Maha Kaew.

Cool Uses of a Garbage Container

Here are some ideas of how you could use a garbage container if littering stops being such a big issue. I like the idea of turning it into a pool, if you can manage to get the garbage stench out of it. But with littering a very big problem worldwide I think everyone should use garbage cans and containers for their original purpose, that would make our world a lot cleaner.

Becoming a Millionaire is Easy!

If you live in Zimbabwe, that is. Due to the country’s hyperinflation rate of over 231,000,000% a year, the financial authorities were forced to release larger and larger bills in order to help people buy the simplest things without carrying bricks of bills  with them. When the $10,000,000 bill was released early this year, it was worth about $4 US, but it soon became as worthless as the previous bills and now you can find the 100 billion dollars bill which you can use to buy…3 eggs.

When people want to go to a restaurant they are again forced to carry mountains of money with them. This all began in the year 2000, when president Mugabe came to power and transformed the whole country into a giant agricultural field. Now the inflation is through the roof, 80% of the population is unemployed and a third of the population has left the country. At least they can take pride in the fact that they have the highest denomination bills in the world.

IC3 – Intelligent Cutlery

If you’re careful about what and how much you it, than IC3 is the perfect gadget for you. It’s made-up of a computerized handle and 3 interchangeable eating tools: a fork, a knife and a spoon, each with their own special features. The fork measures food composition, such as fat, sugar or protein levels, the spoon weighs your bites and the knife acts as a thermometer, taking temperature readings from your food. Together these three do a great job of replacing the normal nutritionist.

The IC3 Cutlery has been presented and is still on display at the Designparcours 2008 exhibition in Munich, Germany.

Cats and Dogs Rivalry at its finest

What happened to the good all days when dogs did what they were supposed to do, chase cats? I’ve seen dogs restrain themselves from attacking felines because of their masters but this display of unusual friendship between a cat and a dog is a little hard to take? what’s next, hamsters sleeping next to snakes?

We’ve seen piglets taken in by a dogs, tiger pups raised by a monkey, it won’t be long until we see kittens nursed by dogs…what a world!

1967 Mustang Trike

You might not recognize the 1967 Mustang part of this Trike if you look at it from the front, but if you take a look from the back you’ll see this is indeed a vintage Mustang. The owner transformed it into a one of a kind Mustang Trike by adding the front side of a motorcycle. It took him 2 years to complete this masterpiece that was posted on eBay with a starting price of $34,499. There were no bids and now it has been taken off the site, but I’m sure there will be someone willing to take the 1976 Mustang Trike off the builder’s hands.
