Woman Accuses Husband of Cheating after Paying Online Fortune-Teller

Police in Wuhu, China’s Anhui Province, recently mediated the bizarre marital dispute between a local man and his wife, who had accused him of cheating because a fortune-teller had told her so.

Earlier this month, a man walked into a police station in Wuhu to complain about his wife’s constant harassment following an online fortune-telling session. After paying 500 yuan ($70) to hear a total stranger’s opinion about her husband’s fidelity, the wife confronted her spouse, accusing him of visiting hotels with other women and paying sex workers. At first, the man didn’t know where his wife’s accusations were coming from, and he tried explaining to her that he had been loyal, but when he learned that his wife was basing her accusations on a fortune-teller’s predictions, he went straight to the police.

“She spent 500 yuan to consult a so-called fortune-telling master, who informed her that her husband was having an affair. The master requested the fee, and having already paid, she believed their interpretation must be accurate,” said Zhao Xingyu, a police officer from the Guandou Police Station. “She trusted them easily because others had claimed they were highly accurate.”

The unjustly accused man got so fed up with his wife’s baseless accusations that he appealed to local police to mediate their dispute, because marital life had become unbearable. His wife believed the online fortune teller over him, and he couldn’t convince her of his innocence.

“She’s been calling this fortune-teller non-stop since early morning. I told her I can’t take it anymore. Life like this is simply unbearable,” the man reportedly told local police.

After being criticized by the police for her behavior, the woman reportedly relented and the couple went back to their peaceful life.
