Chinese Artist Builds Amazing City Model with 50,000 Coins

A Chinese man made the news last week for building an incredible model of his hometown, using nothing but coins! He spent an entire month painstakingly stacking up ancient and modern coins from 11 different countries to create the model, complete with roads, bridges and skyscrapers. Believe it or not, he didn’t use any glue!

He Peiqi revealed that he used his contacts in the coin trading industry to collect tens of thousands of coins for his masterpiece. Once the coins were ready, he got to work on the floor of his apartment, kneeling for two long hours each day. He carefully stacked the coins to resemble the general layout of Chongqing City.

The one-of-a-kind model uses red and green agate stones to represent the city’s two major water bodies – Yangtze River and Jialing River. It also depicts major landmarks such as the E’gongyan Bridge, bridges on the Yangtze River and the 28 bridges on Jialing River

“Ancient Chinese coins, current day Chinese coins and foreign coins have all been used,” He explained. In total there are 11 types with over 50,000 coins used. “I have paid particular attention to the main landmarks including the East Water and Chaotian Gates as well as Nanbing Petronas Towers ie Sheraton Hotel also.”

The breathtaking model is rather fragile, given the fact that he did not glue any of the coins together. So when reporters visited his home the art work, he warned them, “Be careful not to touch it!” His fear is understandable – disturbing even a single coin would create a domino effect, resulting in the collapse of the entire structure.
