Once every two years, the Grand Place, a central market in Brussles, Belgium becomes one of the largest flower gardens in the world. This year people could admire a beautiful flower carpet between the 14th and 17th of August, for those of you that missed it, there’s always two years from now.
The flower carpet of Grand Place has a different model every time and it’s made out of roughly 700,000 begonias. This is definitely one of the must see- attractions of Brussels.

this is fucking cool
Netherlands is the homeland of flowers. I don’t know why they decided to build this carpet with begonias instead of tulips
@humoric
Was that supposed to be funny? Really? Brussels in the Netherlands?
That was a joke wasn’t it? C’mon, it was. Wasn’t it? Please? Say it was…
They probably didn’t use tulips because this is Belgium, not the Netherlands. It wouldn’t make sense to deliberately change their design to incorporate the national flower of a /neighbouring/ country.
The Netherlands can be the homeland of flowers. But Brussels is still the capital of Belgium….
probably because it’s belgium and not the netherlands…
Humoric, a. This is Belgium and not the Netherlands, and b. it is August therefore no tulips.
Freaking Chill…
NOT!!!!!!1 >:)
Yup, went there, quite amazing in real-life. Don’t stay there though, go to Gent and Brugge if you get a chance.
Aaahh the good old motherland. beer, waffles, Chocolate, and “french” fries
besides, tulips don’t bloom in August… and the blooms are not exactly carpet width…

I am appalled at the waste of so many flowers. It is insane to grow them and then destroyed them. It would be better if they are grown in small pots, used and the put for them for sale to those interested to buy the pretty thing. This is an abuse of Mother Nature an disregard for living things.
Check out the Fountain Square carpet in Cincinnati :
The Flower Carpet is made up of 24,000 pansies, sod and mulch.
Pansies are used because they love cool temperatures.
The Flower Carpet changes every day and after two weeks is in full bloom and very fragrant.
On Sunday, April 26, the display will be dismantled starting at 8 a.m. and the public will be allowed to take pansies home for free.
Remaining pansies will be planted in surrounding parks by the Park Board.
The Flower Carpet is made possible by a generous sponsorship from P&G.
Wonderful pictures. Thank you for giving some attention to the great country of Belgium. I have long been telling people it is a great vacations spot for people looking to visit Europe. Great job.
