Woman Dies After Eating Chocolate from Fortune Teller Who Predicted Her Imminent Demise

A 27-year-old Brazilian woman tragically lost her life after experiencing poisoning symbols associated with a chocolate candy allegedly received from a gypsy woman who had allegedly predicted her early death.

Fernanda Silva Valoz da Cruz Pinto fell ill on August 3rd, experiencing severe stomach pains, vomiting, nosebleeds, and excessive salivation. She was rushed to Santa Casa de Misericórdia Hospital, but there was nothing doctors could do, and she died in the early hours of the following day. According to initial information provided by her family, Fernanda had told them that she had received a chocolate candy from a supposed gypsy fortune teller in the center of Maceió City who had also predicted that she would die very soon. She ate the candy that very same day, then fell ill and started experiencing poisoning symptoms.

Because Fernanda’s family had told doctors that she also suffered from stomach ulcers and gastritis, the symptoms of which can be similar to those of food poisoning, her death was listed as “yet to be clarified”. However, after the autopsy results showed that the 27-year-old woman had died as a result of poisoning with toxic substances, the family’s story about the fortune teller’s candy didn’t seem that implausible anymore.

Soon after the toxicology report came out last week, the Homicide and Personal Protection Police Station (DHPP) began an investigation into this bizarre case, but the chances of actually finding any new clues are very slim, due to the long time gap between Fernanda Silva Valoz da Cruz Pinto’s death and the investigation.

“The unusual story in itself brings some difficulty to the investigation,” the DHPP’s Lucimério Campos told journalists. “The time interval of almost two months also presents a challenge, as the homicide investigation begins at the scene of the crime, and we were not there. However, we will make every effort to compensate for this loss of information and provide a solution to the case.”

Police sources credited the family for helping to shed light on Fernanda’s death, as if they had buried her two months ago, right after her death, without requesting toxicology tests, there wouldn’t even be an investigation.

As for the alleged gypsy fortune teller who gave the victim the chocolate candy and predicted her imminent death, that remains just a theory at this point, and police sources have admitted that identifying the culprit, if there even is one, will be difficult so long after the woman’s death. CCTV surveillance systems in the area where they allegedly met no longer have the recorded footage from two months ago and finding eye-witnesses will prove difficult. Plus, following the extensive media coverage around the case, the culprit may have just gone into hiding.

This is the second bizarre poisoning case to rock Brazil this year. A few months back, we featured the case of a woman who died after eating poisoned chocolate candy sent by her ex-lover’s jealous girlfriend.
