Swedish Startup Trains Crow to Pick Up Litter in Exchange for Food

Corvid Cleaning, a Swedish startup specializing in training crows to pick up litter in exchange for food, claims that its program could save communities a fortune in cleaning costs.

According to the Keep Sweden Tidy Foundation, over a billion cigarette butts are left on Sweden’s streets every year which represents about 62 percent of all litter. Teaching humans not to throw cigarette butts on the street has so far proven impossible, but a Swedish startup claims it can teach crows to pick up after us and save local communities millions of krone in cleaning fees every year. Corvid Cleaning teaches wild crows to do our dirty work through a step-by-step learning process, that involves rewarding the birds with food for every cigarette butt they collect.

Chinese Millionaire Spends His Free Time Picking Up Trash From the Streets of His City

Zhong Congrong, a successful businessman from Chongqing, China, has become known as the “the millionaire trash collector,” for his longtime habit of scouring the streets of his city armed with a trash-picking claw and picking up any garbage he finds.

The 52-year-old entrepreneur began cleaning up the streets of Chingqing three years ago, after a family trip to southern China’s Hainan province, for the Chinese New Year. There, he met a retired university professor who had reportedly been picking up trash from one of the local beaches every day, for the last four years. He was so impressed with the woman’s dedication and commitment to trash collecting that he decided to replicate her daily habit in his home city, as soon as he got back from his vacation.

California’s “Butt Lady” Picks Up 1 Million Discarded Cigarette Butts in Just Over 3 Years

Sally Dawly is a woman on a mission. Over the last three and a half years, the anti-littering activist has spent most of her free time picking up cigarette butts from the streets of her home city of Auburn, in California, and on this year’s Valentine’s Day she picked up her millionth butt.

Dubbed the “Butt Lady” by her local community, Dawly began her quest to rid the streets of Auburn of cigarette butts in October 2014. Armed with a broom, dustpan and a pair of tongs, the woman started scouring the streets of her town in search of discarded cigarette butts, picking them up and throwing them in the trash, where they belong. To keep a tab on how many butts she picks up, the Butt Lady has been using a clicker, and earlier this month, she hit a historic milestone – one million cigarette butts.

Mysterious Motorcyclist Hunts Drivers Who Litter, Throws Trash Back in Their Cars

A Russian biker has taken it upon herself to teach people not to litter while driving. And her methods are quite extreme – she follows the offenders on her motorcycle, picks up their trash, and throws it right back into their cars!

The mysterious crusader recently uploaded a video of herself in action, which she recorded using a GoPro camera attached to her helmet. The video is so hilarious that I’m not surprised it hit 10 million views in just three days.

The two-minute clip starts off with the woman’s motorcycle parked on the sidewalk, behind a bright red car. The car driver is seen flinging a cigarette butt out of his window. The woman promptly starts up her bike and moves forward, picks up ash from a nearby ashtray and flings it on the driver through the car’s open window. The man was flabbergasted, and the woman was off before he could react.
