Sweet-Toothed Siblings Make Giant Versions of Their Favorite Treats

Have you ever wondered what a giant Toffifee candy would look like? Well, now you don’t have to, because sweet-loving Laura Parry and her brother David have already made one, as well as several other giant versions of popular English sweets.

23-year-old Laura and her brother David, 20, spend one day each week cooped up in the kitchen creating giant calorie bombs shaped like popular English snacks. The two university students came up with the idea on a day off from their summer jobs say neither of them are culinary geniuses, but they just thought they’d give it a go. And considering so far they’ve created impressive super-sized versions of treats like the Bourbon biscuit, Cadbury Fudge, Angel Slice and Jammy Dodger, I’d say their idea was brilliant. The Toffifee looks especially tasty to me, which had to cut with a saw to get a cross-section photo.

World’s Most Expensive Popsicle Costs $1,000

Marquis Los Cabos luxury resort, in Baja California Sur, Mexico, offers its guests the most exclusive popsicle they’ve ever tasted, priced at 1,000 US dollars.

So what makes a simple popsicle cost so much money, apart from the chance to savor poolside in one of the most beautiful places on Earth. Well, rich people tend to have a soft spot for gold, so the world’s most expensive popsicle contains 24 carat gold and Tequilas Premium Clase Azul Ultra, a special brand of tequila which sells for $1,500 a bottle. The frozen treat is served poolside, on a classic plastic stick, with some gold chocolate coins. Although salt would have been much more appropriate for a tequila popsicle, this one contains sugar, to take the edge off.

If you don’t have a sweet tooth and real gold flakes don’t impress you enough to throw a whole grand on a popsicle, the guys at Marquis Los Cabos will gladly serve you a simple shot of Tequilas Premium Clase Azul Ultra for a mere $500.

Czech Confectioners Make World’s Largest Easter Bunny Cake

Four confectioners from the Czech Republic claim they’ve created the world’s largest Easter Bunny cake and hope to get a place in the Guinness Book of Records.

It’s not the cutest bunny I’ve seen this Easter but I’m sure it’s one of the most delicious. Confectioners at a cake-shop in Chomutov, the Czech Republic spent 48 hours preparing the sweet treat in time for Easter. Jarmilla Jonakova says they’ve used 770 eggs, 160 lbs of sponge cake, 120 lbs of cream, 44 lbs of jam, 40 lbs of marzipan to make the themed cake, then covered it all with a layer of chocolate. When it was finished, the big-eyed edible bunny weighed over 370 lbs and measured over 6 feet in length.

On Easter Day the chocolate bunny cake was sliced into pieces and handed over to people in the Czech town of Uherské Hradiště. Everybody loves cake, but some people were a little freaked out by the bunny’s appearance. “It might taste sweet, but you wouldn’t want to run into it in a dark alley” a customer of the cake-shop said. Freaky or not, this one-of-kind Easter cake is awaiting confirmation from the Guinness Book of Records, for the world’s largest Easter Bunny Cake.

Licorice Mosaic Portraits by Jason Mecier

Jason Mecier is a famous mosaic artist who uses all kinds of materials, from sweets to pills and recyclable junk, to create incredibly detailed portraits of celebrities and pop icons.

Looking at the masterpieces Jason Mecier creates, you’d find it hard to believe he has no formal art training, but he is indeed a self-taught artist with incredible talent. His greatest inspiration is his grandmother who nurtured his artistic inclination ever since he was just a child. The artworks she created mesmerized him as a boy, and Jason remembers she was the one who encouraged him to create art using materials readily available to him. You can say he followed her advice to the letter, as he is now known as one of the world’s most gifted junk artists.

The first time I heard about Jason Mecier and his unique artworks, was when he created a series of pill portraits of celebrities who had drug problems throughout their careers. This was back in January of 2010, and since then Jason has completed his portfolio with all kinds of other beautiful creations made of various materials. Some of them are part of his RedVines portrait series, made of delicious licorice.

Colombian Chef Creates Edible Wedding Dresses

Juan Manuel Barrientos, a talented young chef from Colombia, has created two fully edible wedding gowns and showcased them during the Colombiatex fashion show in Medellin.

Barrieto admits he didn’t know much about fashion, let alone edible fashion, until someone asked him about clothes that you could eat. He started doing some research on the subject and didn’t stop until he was able to create two beautiful wedding gowns exclusively out of edible materials.

Wedding dresses are usually just something pretty for people to look at, so Juan Manuel Barrieto decided to use his newly acquired knowledge to give them a whole new purpose. Instead of just eye-candy for the wedding guests, his beautiful creations are real candy for the groom to enjoy on his wedding night.

The original wedding dresses are made of 2,000 sugar-glazed rose petals and champagne clothe and come with edible accessories such as bracelets, earrings, necklaces and rings made of candy, and a bouquet made of edible flowers.

Barrieto showcased his sugary gowns during a textile fair for professionals that takes place between Januarry 25 and 27, in the Colombian city of Medellin.

World’s Largest Gummy Worm Is a Real Calorie Bomb

Measuring twenty-six inches in length and weighing a massive 3 pounds, Vat19’s giant gummy worm is 128 times larger than the ordinary worms you love to chew on.

Gummy bears are really good, but let’s face it, there way to small, and sometimes a whole bag of them isn’t enough to satisfy your craving of gooey goodness. The guys of Vat19 realized the seriousness of this issues and decided to finally do something about it. That’s pretty much how the world’s largest gummy worm was born.

Just like its smaller brothers, this chewy behemoth has a ribbed body, a nice smiley face so you know if you’re biting on its head or tail, and comes in a variety of dual flavors. The whole thing packs about 4,000 calories, but with a shelf life of around a year, you don’t have to rush and finish it all in one go.

Who Knew Intel Made Candy?

I’m pretty sure not even Intel knew they made candy, but these Russian candy clearly have the Intel logo on the wrapper.

You’d think whoever made these would at least change its logo from “Intel inside” to something like “Candy inside”, but apparently they decided to take full advantage of the “i CORE” processors series to sell their products. I have to agree those are some sweet processors to have in your rig, but I never imagined they were actually good enough to eat. The i3, i5 and i7 Intel candy comes in different flavors and can be found in various Russian shops.

Every Topping under the Sun-dae

I’m glad to present an ice-cream that could go into the record  books as tastiest dessert ever created, the Every Topping under the Sun-dae

The idea for this delicious concoction belongs to the guys at TopCultured, who thought those giant Cold Stone ice-creams could be even better if they contained all the toppings the creamery offers. So they simply mixed all the 40 toppings (!!!) into one delicious piece of heaven, and had one guy go through the “torture” of eating the whole thing. In case your wondering, he did eat the entire Every Topping under the Sun-dae, and he’s still around to tell his tale.

This sweet heart-stopper consists of 1 quart of Sweet Cream ice cream, 1 quart of Oreo Cream Filling ice cream and the 40 toppings listed below:

I Love Cupcakes, But Not This Much

It’s true, cupcakes are one of God’s greatest gifts to man, and I like them just as much as the next guy, but i certainly wouldn’t pay $150,000 for one.

ROX, a Scotland based diamond and jewelry chain, teamed up with Cupcake Glasgow, to create what you might call a priceless treat. Their creation may look like any other small cupcake, but it’s actually sprinkled with tens of sparkling diamonds. That makes it worth 100,000 British pounds.

Creating the world’s most expensive cupcake was the best way to market “Glam in the City”, Scotland’s largest consumer show, which will take place between 18 – 20 June, 2010. If you’re interested, the outrageously expensive cupcake can be ordered at the ROX store, in Glasgow. But watch your teeth, I hear those diamonds are pretty tough to chew.

Alien Facehugger Cake – Would You Eat It?

I’m mad about cool looking cakes, and if you’ve been here before, you already know that. Now, I know I said stuff like “I wouldn’t eat this!” about other disgusting-looking cakes, but compared to this Alien facehugger cake, they all look mighty delicious.

Presented at the “That Takes The Cake 2010” sci-fi themed cake show, in Austin, the edible Alien facehugger looks like it crawled right off the set of an Alien movie. I’m sure it’s tasty and everything, but just looking at it, instantly kills my appetite.

I know many of you wouldn’t mind having this particular facehugger grab a hold of your face, but their are much nicer looking cakes out there. Hat’s off to the artist that made this, though.

Giant Chocolate Eggs Are a Chocoholic’s Dream

Now this is what all chocolate eggs should look like: huge! I remember, as a kid, I was nuts about those Kinder chocolate eggs, with the toy in the middle, but looking at these babies…I was a dumb kid.

These beautiful ornate chocolate eggs are made by Tim Fonseca, executive pastry chef, at the Four Seasons Hotel, in Boston. There’s not much else I can tell you about these chocolaty masterpieces, except that all chocolate eggs should be like these.

Deliciously Creepy Victim Of Hannibal Lecter Cake

Hello Clarice…Actually it’s ‘Good evening, Clarice’, but heck, most people are familiar with just the first one. Anyway, here’s a very cool Silence of the Lambs themed cake.

Created by Celebration Generaton Cakes, for the Czar of Cakes Challenge at the Minnesota Monthly Food & Wine Experience, the Victim of Hannibal Lecter Cake is one of the most original I’ve seen. And as you may know, I’ve recently posted quite a number of cool cakes, lately.

Made with fondant, sugarpaste, gumpaste, cocoa and other sweet ingredients, the Silence of the Lambs theme was chosen because there was no way someone else ‘would think of, much less actually use it’.

The Giant Kit Kat Chocolate Bar

Finally a chocolate bar big enough not to make you crave more. This is definitely what the standard chocolate bar size would be, if I ruled the world.

I’m sure you’ve seen bigger-than-usual chocolate bars before, but this is truly gigantic. A dude named Brian created the giant Kit Kat bar for Christmas. He started by going to the local hardware store and buying one of those big flower boxes. Then he filled it with molten chocolate and six packs of Loacker Quadratini cookies (for the crunchy interior).

When it was finished, the giant Kit Kat chocolate bar was 28 inches long and weighed over 13.5 kilograms. Named Mega Giganta Kat, by its creator, this calorie bomb has over 72,000 calories. Considering a person’s daily calorie intake is around 1,800-2,200, that’s pretty scary.

One thing I wasn’t able to find out is how he made the Kit Kat logo, but I think it was carved or something.

The Jelly-Bean Mosaics of Peter and Roger Rocha

Self-proclaimed King of Jelly Bean Art, Peter Rocha and his talented nephew Roger create impressive mosaics using thousands of colored jelly-beans.

The two Rochas spend up to six months creating the sweet masterpieces, understandable since thy use around 10,000 different types of jelly beans. Throughout their artistic careers, the artistic duo have created over 75 jelly-bean mosaics, commissioned by the Jelly Belly Candy Company.

Recently, Roger Rocha showcased a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II at the time of her coronation, in 1952, made from 10,000 jellybeans. The 4-foot-high artwork is now on display at Fizziwig’s Sweet Emporium in Brighton, UK.
