Night sky of the underground

If you’re ever in New Zealand, don’t miss out the chance to visit Waitomo cave, the only place on Earth where the stars shine underground. Well ok, they’re not really stars, but thousands of glow-worms radiating their unmistakable luminescent light.

Although it can’t compare to the real thing, here are some photos of this natural wonder, to convince you to go see it live:

Saw the caves years ago when my parents and I visited NZ. It’s one of the few things they talk about after all these years, as far as remembering vacation spots. very beautiful!

I saw the glow-worms when I went to NZ in ‘89. It is a definite “must see” for anybody who travels to that beautiful land.

I went there in 2001, and it is one of the most amazing things I’ve ever seen. These pictures don’t do the cave justice, every room is absolutely packed with them.

You can find glow worms in many places around NZ, Waitomo caves is the most famous. And they’re actually maggots, not worms, but don’t tell anyone, it doesn’t sound as nice.
