Built back in the 10th century, the incredible well of Chand Baori, India was a practical solution to the water problem in the area. The arid climate forced the locals to dig deep for a dependable water source, one that would last throughout an entire year. Chand Baori well is 30 meters deep, it has 13 floors and 3,500 steps. Legends say that ghosts build it in one night and that it has so many steps to make it impossible for someone to retrieve a coin once it’s been dropped in the well.

Ah this is deadly. Definitely not photoshopped, there was a picture in one of my old school geography books. I swear, some people would look at a photo of the pyramids and say “shopped!”. And well done to Bill Canaday for retaining a little courtesy in a world gone mad with casual rudeness. I won’t even make a joke about how the polite peaceful guy happens to have “Canada” in his name.
Escheresque.
Am I the only one who’s sick and tired of assholes yelling “PHOTOSHOPPED!” at every fucking picture they see?? Why would anybody make a photoshopped pic of a WELL?? And who the fucked asked YOU whether it is photoshopped or not?? Fuck You!
Thoez picturez are pwiddy.
I agree with pennydog. Even if it is, most people don’t care, so shut up already!
The pyramids were shopped.
Whatever it is, it is. You can never change it. It is a historical monument and one that has people’s emotions attached to it. You have no f***ing right to say that it is photoshopped.
If you feel so, shove it into your own ass.
People have such silly ideas about what is good and bad. If you are in an arid country, you drink what is available to you. And, also, algae is a form of seaweed, yes? Well, who here has eaten sushi? Miso soup? Get over yourselves. Algae is an extremely healthy thing to eat. It has many vitamins, minerals, etc. Hell, I’ll eat it! Just because we call certain varieties seaweed and others algae does not make it the same stuff. Ever wonder what’s in a vitamin pill? Many of them use algae!
may be ur ancestors were not intelligent to bulid a well like this..
Bull shit
Amazing construction
Sarah Palin is the biggest liar in the world (well, except for George Bush and Dick Cheney, John McCain and Irene Flotzengluuber.)
digging a hole equals unemployed and broke
Are some people *that* moronic?! Of course the water is all green and algae ridden and of course no one drinks that *now*! They used to, when the well was built, 10 centuries ago…
ok what kinda person would be so sad to “shop” awell or any other monument, so shut the hell up. all you americans who are so far up your own arse you can see your stone heart, take a look at your own country before making judgements about others, india in those times needed water yes like all other places, and america hadnt been fucking discovered by then so well that means you had none of your slack jown yockal history then. algea is there because it grows on water did they have chlorine in those days? NO ok. well done to Bill canaday. and Big dirty heck just shut the fuck up you patriotic american twat, i would hurl a bucketload of insults at you but i feel that would annoy people.
this is an amazing peice of architechture it is amazing stop saying it’s shopped stop being patriotic. this forum was not made for people to start having a battle over simple things like what countries better than the other. ok britain in my eyes is the best but we all have opinions. can we not turn every forum into a big political mess and can we just admire this amazing building. PLEASE.
shut up you twat. i dont know if your trying to be funny, clever or just down right annoying but please shut up Bdiddy
Mmmm….
I can just imagine…
Under a full moon
Alone,
One must be able to find him(her)self in that well…
Excellent photographs!
This was indeed used in the movie The Fall, which came out earlier this year. Truly a visually fascinating and emotionally moving movie. I had no idea this was a real place. In the movie there are people on everyone of these steps and the whole idea of filling the steps with people and not having anyone accidentally plunge off of it seems so incredible that I thought it was a CGI set. I’m blown away to learn that this is a real place!
I agree with JB but why stop with one slinky; how about hundreds, at night painted in phosphorescent day-glow. Now that would be something
To see it yourself clear. Yourself , at the well, and all the else. and the one, the being “om” the beginning and the end. Alpha et Omega. Amor quam glomus. Es insipire, et finiri? salve. brother.
Peace
I accept, kindly send me a ticket and I’ll take the plunge.
An awesome looking monument.
this is a real well, built at a time when there were no machines or autocad programs for architectural design, there is another step- well called dada hari vav at adalaj just outside ahmedabad in gujarat, the carvings of which will blow you away…e mail me at gnc24@yahoo.com if you want to see the pics – trust me you can’t photoshop grandeur like this
[Look at the wonder of man and the works of his own hands.] This had to be a place of worship . A holy well wow … Do you notice its like a inverted pyramid…. Lots of peace man.
It wouldnt be impossible to get your coin!
Yes it was used on a movie, its in the gallery section of the site posted above. Lots of people using the stairs…
Some one should photoshop the slinkys into the picture. Considering how there is clearly overwhelming evidence that this is already a photoshopped picture to begin with, why not just go one step further and add the slinkys to it!
Mad People. Lots of them here.
What a wonderful work for a well. Shame on people who say its *shopped*. Those still pondering: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chand_Baori
What a remarkable place! Very nice pictures.
lol thought it was grass hehe
I am a proffessional photographer and I can tell you this was obviously photoshopped to make the well seem more impressive.
I am not saying the well doesnt exsist, it just exsists in a smaller capacity then what you see here, because a clever graphic designer ’shopped these photos.
If you look at the angle of the light, and the shadows, and where the seems meet from the shopped photos it is all blurry. A quick eye can tell you right away.
You are retarded.
THE CULTURE AND ARCHITECTURE OF SOCIETIES DIFFER FROM THE OTHER HOWEVER IT DOESN’T MEAN THAT U MORONS HAVE TO CRITICIZE IT. This is a masterpiece of a structure to show u how the power and intelligence of men can overcome any obstacle the may encounter. this society found a way to solve their water problems in those days unlike u modern humans . so please if u have nothing but sh#@t in your head keep it there. normal people worry me
hello people =)
this is very real its not photoshopped enless they photoshopped it to google world too and that is highly unlikely.
To add to that i would like to point out how rediculous it is that u are having this pointed out by a thirteen year old.
Have a good day and learn to like the awesome wonders around the world.
It’s an interesting well, nonetheless. I like how all of you are so violent.
If it was toxic, nobody would drink it, stupid!
Too bad the water is so dirty. Victim of the modern society.
uma fonte ou uma fossa?
this was also used in Final Fantasy VII as the temple of the ancients i believe
I want to comment too!
Imagine if it was full
I’d love to visit this place.
wow, i love how people look at a great picture and imidiatly asume its shopped
Some of you people are like silkies.
You really do not have a purpose.
But you would still make me laugh
if I could push you down those steps.
If some of you punks need photo shop to do that then you suck, that can be done in paint…oh wait, my parents have pics of that well from touring years ago…before home computers were out…maybe some one “shopped” those pics also when they were developed by Kodak
Anyone got a slinky?
lol, ‘proffesional’ photographer? if you were, you could spell it, fuckwit.
this place is awesome and i hope obama visits it. i cannot believe i hadn’t heard of it until now at 49 years of age.
Ha ha hahaha I like that!!!! it does look like green jello!!!!
