Warship Yamato, Largest LEGO Ship Ever Built

How long would the legendary Japanese Warship Yamato be, built out of LEGO bricks?

That’s the question Jumpei Mitsui asked himself since he was a young boy. Now a third year student, Jumpei has answered his own question by building a LEGO model of the Yamato. It took the young Japanese 6 years and 4 months to finish his masterpiece, using 200,000 LEGO bricks.

The LEGO warship is built at a scale of 1/40, weighs over 150 kilograms, measures 6.6 meters from bow to stern and is 1 meter wide at the widest point of the ship.

Jumpei Mitsui finished the LEGO Yamato on April 9, 2009 and he deserves our congratulations. Well done my friend.

You can tell it’s been photoshopped because there are no round edges anywhere. Totally pixelated.

I took a intro to photoshop course and they said that was the first way to tell.

  2. At least 5 of these comments have been ‘Photo-shopped’. I can tell from the words. And I’ve spelled quite a few words in my time. One of them has 5 letters and begins with the letter ‘I’.

However, for the sake of argument, it may be possible to suggest that there are actually 2 Lego Yamatos. In one reality, it is an astounding feat of Legoliness, and hats must be doffed to the person who managed to see it through. Presumably by just doing a bit every now and then, not getting too obsessed and always keeping a healthy sense of perspective and humour.

In the second reality, hats must be doffed to the person who sat and patiently created a series of photorealistic images of a Lego Yamato, pixel by pixel, using MS Paint.

OMFG that is soooo flippin shopped

  4. WTF is up with you people that say everything is photoshopped? Not even just this article alone, but there are people like you that just can’t handle something amazing. Get over yourself! You’re not a computer wiz and “pixels that and pixels this.” STFU! The only thing made of pixels is your tiny dick if you’re a guy and you’re tiny brain tits and brain if you’re a girl. YOU PEOPLE ARE F***ing annoying! Good job on the lego work by the way dude.

  5. UFOboy says:

Nice work! I wish i had that much of 1 color. I have that many legos… JUST that many legos… and if i tried to make that, i wouldn’t get it done for 20 years because i would put it off and keep messing it up as well.

Even if it was photoshopped(i don’t think it was) then good job, i could NEVER hope to do that good with photoshop. I tinker with it a bit, but nothing like that.

All of those who are leaving moronic notes of it being shopped, show respect to the person who made it, there is such detail in it that no matter what method of construction was used, you should congratulate them none the less.

So again, Nice Ship… is it hollow? Inside model of the ship too(i would be put in AWE)? or is it filled fully? If it’s hollow you should hide junk in there… like money… or cookies.

  6. @ “Ur all noobs”

Ironically you are the biggest noob of all. actually, every shithead on this comment section seems to be like you like they literally all just discovered the internet.
Internet 101: trolling consists of any thing to make someone pissed off for entertainment. Like going to christian mothers forums and saying you encourage your children to masturbate together. they say that (not that they even have kids) not cuz its true. but just to rile up other dumbasses like yourselves. no one actually believes its shopped. thats just to get the first tier of dbags to explain how it isn’t shopped. troll win. 2nd tier of dbags knows the trolls think its not shopped but thinks the trolls thinks its funny to say that and that they understand the meme.WRONG AGAIN. the butthurt fags replying is whats funny. CLARIFICATION___All you dbags are troll bait. There is literally so much trollbait in this comment section i could use ringtones to phish and get everyone on here to mail money to nigeria.

so in summary “jj” and “UR ALL NOOBS” you are the idiots, and the actual cause of this “nuisance. yes you. your posts are the butt of the joke which is what you don’t understand. which is why this will continue on ever photo comment section forever and ever. endless supplies of troll bait.

if you’re wondering how to win. ignore it and/or then laugh at the butthurt fags that actually don’t understand like you guys.just like every other instance in life if you ignore someone who is trying to annoy you they won’t keep at it for very long cuz they want a reaction.

Now I’m off to use racist slurs to start flame wars on youtube rap video comments sections even though i’m black.

    Trolling, Trolling, trolling……………………………………

  7. Astounded says:

Is there a moderator for this page. If so, please remove all comments that do not relate directly to the young man’s Lego prowess. Speaking of which; what a project!

His family must be proud of him, to say the least. As for the time spent constructing the Yamato model, eee, I’d imagine that, like most families, they’d have to budget their expenditure. So I wouldn’t think all those Lego pieces were bought overnight, that’s for sure.

And I wouldn’t worry about the main gun batteries being disproportionate. He didn’t have the luxury of a steel substructure to hold everyting in it’s place……or at least that’s what I’d expect of a Lego model.

    Great job!

  8. lego says:

OMG are u stupid? Lego land is shopped too, i can tell by the pixels

  9. A N Onymous says:

You’re all tards, real life is way shopped, so that means everything is shooped, including YOU!

  10. James says:

How come there’s always some moron screaming “photoshopped” no matter what the picture. And to the person who says his 7 year old could build this in 4 hours. Yeah, right. Your 7 year old couldn’t build this in 4 weeks, much less hours. Telling people to “get a life”, take your own advice.

  11. Eric says:

    Awesome! Just truly awesome!

I’ve seen some really good lego building in my day, but this one by far wins!

The creator of this must be very proud.

Also, I hate to do it, but seems like the trend (heh…)…

These photos are not “photoshopped” in the matter of which most of these people are saying. I’ve taken a close look at them both digitally, as well as printed off onto an analogue medium (matte photo paper + high gloss photo paper) and I can detect no “shopping” of the image other than a resize, which can result in “pixelation” as the image was shrunk and not cropped. Therefore, I deem this to be accurate and a true representation of the object in question, without malicious photo retouching, only a simple resize which has malformed parts of the image (Can only really be noticed via print on both glossy and matte) and chances are, it wasnt even photoshop, i’m more likely to believe this was resized via Imagemagick or GD, not photoshop…

    Anyway, love to ramble sometimes!

AMAZING WORK DUDE! Be proud you’ve done something both that’s hilariously awesome and historical at the same time :) Good work.

  12. Trey says:

LoL I love the photoshop joke, easiest way in the world to get a zillion idiots to start fighting. nice ship, but Japan vs USA….

    EPIC FAIL

Like bringing a … trout to a gun fight.

  13. bett says:

now if my foot where to go through that :P

  14. Monster_No7 says:

Just because someone does something you can’t, you assume it’s shopped. It’s slapped onto every cool picture on the internet. Is it really necessary? True, in some cases it is a blatant photoshop. But there are plenty of times where great things happen, and everyone assumes it’s fake because they themselves couldn’t do it. I call bullshit.

  15. anon says:

um im 1st LT ChigChow FlipFlop i serve abourd this ship, its not shopped im just made of lego and i dont know what shopped is!

  16. thats not lego that mechano. you can tell by the blocks. i should know i’m an expert

  17. klyph says:

Wow, the attention to detail is amazing. Every man aboard has bright yellow skin. So realistic.

  18. Darren says:

I’m going to get the first plane to Japan and kick that damn boat down.

Crazy Asians will blow up the world with all this lego technology

  19. anon says:

This looks shopped. I can tell from some of the pixels and from seeing quite a few shops in my time.

  20. Steve says:

    lulz. comment arguments ftl.

  21. Control says:

You are hereby banned from the internet. GTFO.

  22. anon says:

God was shopped. He created downie/autistic japanese cunt nuggets such as this one to spend years on legos. They are all products from Photoshop.

  23. tasker says:

I made one of these out of the ends of cocktail sticks and belly button fluff. Oh, and it bloody well floated too!

  24. Squeezable says:

Wait, is that a Mega Block in there? That one right next to that grey block over there.

  25. Trollhole says:

experieced trollwizard, man your post was so shopped.

  26. Mike says:

Shopped? shopped? Don’t you mean shipped?

  27. America1776 says:

Astonishing. Legos. What a beautiful ship. Or at least she was when she was afloat and made of steel. Now she sits on the bottom a few hundred km off the shore of Okinawa. We (the God Blessed United States Of America) gave her just shy of 10 bombs and sank her to the aft and blew her to bits. Build that out of legos….

  28. John says:

How can people not see how shopped this is? Are you all stupid? or blind? Or both?

Jesus, just look at it, its totally shopped.

  29. Stevo says:

Wouldn’t it be fair to say that your response is only just feeding the cycle of “shopped/no it’s not/you’re all morons” Maybe if we all ignore it, it will go away.

    Anyways, whatever.

  30. steven says:

IT’S LEGO’S THE PIXELS YOU ARE SEEING ARE THE ROUND PARTS ON TOP. TAKE THE TIME TO LOOK AT A DAMN LEGO PIECE AND THEN CRITIQUE IT. IT IS NOT SHOPPED IT IS GENUINE.

  31. padlok says:

i’d like to thank the troll wizard for explaining just how many of these assholes are in on [or think they are in on] the joke. it’s hard for me, a bush league asshole compared to most of those fucks, to discern who’s for real and who is trolling. i wonder, however, what entertainment value there is in this ‘trolling’ if the arguments it generates are as juvenile and boring as this one. i mean, if you inspired people to fist-fight or shoot one another that would be entertainment. but endless cycles of ‘is too’, ‘is not’, ‘ur dumb’ isn’t entertaining at all.

  32. comodisc says:

    Wonderful effort.
Can we just ignore the “it’s shopped” idiots now so they are forced to find something original or even funny to say instead?

  33. rainman says:

After close examination of the number of posts on this page, I can say with mathematical certainty that the average age of poster would be 13 years old. Cursing does not get a point across, however what it does accomplish is giving the apearance of total ignorance. Trust me, after being in the military for only 5 years there is a monumental differance between those who can complete a sentence with or without the use of the word f*ck.

  34. Nick says:

    FUUUUU—
    Does it float?

  35. Anonymous says:

    You’re an idiot

  36. Ed says:

I guess those that never had lego BLOCKS, don’t know what they look like. Go to Wal Mart losers.

  37. Bud says:

    I smell shit… Someone’s full of themselves.

  38. Moe says:

Jesus Christ people, not everything in the world is photoshopped. People see pixils and they’re like, “Oh me oh my, this must be a photoshopped job!” When if you think about it, who would actually CARE enough to photoshop a lego boat?
This doesn’t look photoshopped at all, it just looks like everything is all square and like it’s made out of little tiny blocks because it, well, is made out of little tiny blocks.

  39. OMG thats totally shopped. When you zoom in you can see all the pixels.

  40. anon says:

it is 5am and i feel like a waste of life because i read all of these idiotic posts

    sick lego building…i miss mine

  41. heh says:

arguments about nothing are fun : ) graphjam has some great comment argument/insults. yay for trolling!

  42. Mel says:

You can you discredit someone’s work who spent so much of their valuable time to complete such a project. This is very impressive.

  43. anyone notice that the lieutenant is looking straight down the barrel of the main canon? maybe not the best spot for a speech—

  44. Robyn says:

Regarding “That’s totally shopped” as a joke.

To be a joke, it would have to be funny.

  45. adroh says:

yeah really “trolling”???! you kids these days are pathetic. you cant even find friends to make stupid nonsensical arguments with in real life with? no wonder you do what you do.

  46. herbie says:

been following the building of this on various moddelling sights for at least 3 years -its very, very real, and impressive.
The ignorance of some people! – or as some one said -some pretty young posters on here.
Think it would be easy -try building justone of the AA turrets -and see how long that takes you.
I hope the guy makes a motsa in the displays this will enivitably be shown at -in Japan this will be a big hit.
6 years of work will shortly pay off big time for this youngster
    Well done to him
