With the Adorn 3D makeup pen you will apparently no longer have to worry about the dreary mission of hunting for the right shade of foundation. This revolutionary gadget is a scanner-3D printer combo that uses its inbuilt sensors to accurately scan and precisely match the color of your skin regardless of ethnicity and skin tone, even in total darkness.
“They say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder,” an Adorn spokesperson said. “We like to say it’s in one clever pen. No longer will ladies have to settle for coverage that’s too light or dark. With Adorn, they can print catwalk worthy coverage, at the touch of a button.”
According to the company’s website, the device is so accurate that you’ll never be able to tell the difference. It first scans the user’s face and matches the detected shade to its database of over 75,000 tones. Once the scan is complete, it lets out a small beep, and then prints foundation of that exact color from its pre-filled foundation cartridge onto your fingertips ready to be applied.
While typical foundation is created by blending blue, black, and white pigmentation, Adorn claims to be able to expand upon the infinite spectrum of shades within these colors. The foundation itself consists of ingredients like anti-wrinkle peptide Matrixyl 3000, Litchiderm, sodium hyaluronate, and even green tea, and is supposedly free from sulphates, parabens, synthetic fragrances, and Triclosan.
The foundation’s ‘skin-smart’ blend is meant to suit all skin types – oily, dry, and combination. The pen can be reused to deal with slight variations in skin tone with changing seasons and exposure to sun. Cartridges can be refilled and replaced for under $20, which is less than most high-end foundation brands. The device is powered by rechargeable batteries designed last for a few weeks per charge, depending on frequency of use.
The pen retails at $279, but is available for pre-order on the official Adorn 3D website at $139 for a limited period of time. It’s available in five different colors – gold, cherry red, pink, black, and space grey.
