Self-defense instructions for women

The Japanese have decided to release a series of woman self-defense instructional images to help them fight-off aggressors. Judging by the moves depicted I have to say I pity the fool who would dare attack a woman trained in these martial arts. that head-blow alone would bring any man to its knees, the other blows are just for fun. Beware women-aggressors, you may become the victims.

A Sandwich Can Kill You!

This is the motto of Buns and Guns Restaurant in Beirut, Lebanon.

“They accuse us of terrorism, so let’s serve terrorist bread, why not?” says Mr. Ibrahim, the owner of Buns and Guns. The restaurant looks like a military post, with sand-bags to protect the clients, sounds of machine-guns and bombs instead of music and illustrations of different weapons all around.

Set up in a Hezbollah-controlled area of Beirut, Buns and Guns started attracting customers on the first day it opened and foods like “terrorist bread, rocket propelled grenade, Dragunov, Kalashnikov, Viper or B52” are becoming more and more popular.

Mr. Ibrahim says the only way a Buns and Guns sandwich can kill somebody is by its generous size.

Cape Stolbchaty

It seems almost impossible to believe that nature itself created the “stone organs” of Cape Stolbchaty, on Kunashir Island. But this indeed the result of volcanic activity at its finest. This natural wonder is formed out of thousands of rock columns that sometimes, under the pressure of the elements come tumbling down, breaking to pieces and forming piles that resemble firewood.

If you find the volcanic formations of Cape Stolbchaty interesting, you might want to check out The Giant’s Causeway and Garni Gorge

Why Stingrays Sting People

Well mainly because most of us are ignorant apes that only think of themselves…How dumb and cruel do you have to be to abuse a poor stingray that way? And look at the girls loving every minute of it, taking pictures with the “monkey” as if they’re at the circus. Why doesn’t it sting one of them, see if they keep smiling like idiots?

Heatherwick Rolling Bridge

When the Heatherwick Rolling Bridge is in its horizontal position, there’s nothing remotely strange about it, just another steel and wood-made bridge in London. But that all changes when it curves up until its two ends touch, to let boats pass. When curled, Heatherwick Bridge resembles an old watermill wheel.

Heatherwick Studio’s Rolling Bridge opens every Friday at noon but if the winds exceed 30 mph, the hidraulics may be unable to handle them, so the bridge doesn’t open.

The world’s greatest apple artworks

Helge Lundstrom is said to be the best apple artist in the world…I wonder if he’s the only one too? This man makes a different apple mosaic every year for the Apple Market Festival in Kivik, Sweden and each one is more beautiful than the other. Only problem I have is about all those wasted apples, just like the Orange Festival of Ivrea where tons of oranges go to waste, when they can all be donated to some poor country where people are dying of hunger. But, other than that, Helge Lundstrom’s apple art looks simply amazing. He uses more than 75,000 apples for each of his apple mosaics

Some smart people have come up with a way to help us grab some precious extra minutes of sleep in some unusual circumstances. With their revolutionary vertical bed anyone can take a short nap while waiting for the traffic light to change, in the elevator or in public transportation vehicles.

The vertical bed comes complete with ear-muffs, mirrored eye-glasses and even an umrella in case it rains. All you have to do is stick your hands in your pockets to protect your wallet and phone and you’re all set for a nice relaxing nap. One day in the vertical bed and you’ll wonder how you ever lived without it.

What’s wrong with these photos?

I mean shouldn’t things be the other way around? And if that had been a bull I would have understood…sort of, but that’s a freaking cow mounting a poor old woman. And look at that other “cow” just sitting there enjoying the show instead and rushing to her fellow human’s aid. So much for poor innocent cows huh?

Crazy Self-Sustainable Chair

Created by Korean artist JooYoun Paek, the self-sustainable chair is a polyethylene-made dress, connected to a pair of special pair of shoes that pump air into the dress, with every step you take. After a short walk, the dress inflates in the back forming a nice “little” chair that makes it possible for you to stop, sit on it and rest for a bit. Depending on the wearer’s weight, the dress deflates allowing him to carry on with his walk.

The self-sustainable dress is an artistic concept that “motivates people to switch between walking and sitting  as a loop behavior on the street”. One couldn’t actually use the self-sustainable chair on a day-to-day basis, it makes you look like you just arrived from another planet.

Here’s a test-drive of the self-sustainable chair in New York:

Protect 486 – The Motorcycle Armour

All you motorcycle owners out there know how hard it is to protect your vehicle against thieves and the dust of big cities. Well Protect 486 may be the solution you were searching for. Designed by Marc Graells Ballve, this revolutionary motorcycle security device was inspired by natural defense mechanisms of animals like the armadillo.

The Protect 486 motorcycle security system raps around your prized two-wheel vehicle and, because of its burglar alarm, it makes it almost impossible for thieves to steal it. Protect 486 is just a prototype for the time beein, but it might go into production if the reactions are favorable.

Human Smiley-Face for Google Earth

The people of Russian city Chelyabinsk have found a unique way to make their beloved city known to the entire world by using Google Earth.

In a carefully planed event, the citizens of  Chelyabinsk calculated when Google’s satellite, “Quick Bird”, passes directly over the city and formed a yellow smiley face that could be noticed from out of space. The result of their organized effort will be seen the next time Google Earth updates, but whether they get the exposure they were looking for or not, the people behind the Smiley-Face of Chelyabinsk have our congratulations for the effort.

Q1 Tower – World’s Tallest Residential Building

Set in Surfer’s Paradise, Queensland, the Q1 Tower is the tallest residential building in Australia and the world.

Q1 Tower has a roof height of 275 meters that only make it the second tallest residential building in Australia, after Eureka Tower, in Melbourne. But Q1 also has a long metal spire set up on the roof, which makes the total height of the building go up to 322.5 meters.

The Q1 Tower was inspired by the Sydney 2000 Olympic Torch and the Sidney Operahouse and it was named in honor of Australia’s 1920s Olympic sculling team. Q1 also means Queensland Number One and it will not be holding the title of world’s tallest residential building for much longer, a taller D1 Tower is being built in Dubai and it is scheduled for completion in 2009

Original 1989 Batmobile on sale on eBay

Unfortunately “Biding has ended for this item” so you no longer have the opportunity to ride in an original Batmobile. Well…I don’t know if original is the right word to describe it. Warner Bros. built 5 Batmobiles for their 1989 motion picture and this is the last of them, but it wasn’t actually used in the movie. So I guess it’s kind of an original replica.

The starting bid was set at $500,000 but the highest bid for the 1989 Batmobile was only $110,000. The 20 feet long, 8 feet  wide original Batmobile replica has a Chevrolet 350 engine and no doors. The buyer would have to climb on top of the car where the canopy opens just like in the movie.

Because the 1989 Batmobile originally belonged to Warner Bros., the owner would have to sign a special contract with the company. The details of this contract were not revealed on the eBay bidding-page
