The World’s Longest Car Has 26 Wheels and Can Fit Up to 75 Passengers

Built from six 1976 Cadillac El Dorado limousines, The American Dream is over 30 meters long and has enough interior space to fit up to 75 people. It’s not the easiest vehicle to maneuver, though.

Originally built in 1986 by renowned car collector and customizer, Jay Ohrbeg, The American Dream measured “only” 18.28 meters (60 feet) and was powered by a pair of V8 engines, one at the front and another at the rear. Ohrberg later extended his unique vehicle to a whopping 30.5 meters (100 feet) long. Guinness acknowledged The American Dream as the world’s longest car in 1986, and the giant limousine was featured on the cover of several magazines, on television shows and even in movies, but its meteoric rise to fame was followed by an abrupt drop in popularity. It ended up abandoned at the back of a New Jersey warehouse for decades until a pair of automotive enthusiasts bought it and restored it to its former glory.

Today, The American Dream is back to its glamorous self, with 26 brand-new wheels, a fresh coat of white paint, and a few extra inches added to its already impressive length, thanks to the efforts of Michael Dezer and Michael Manning, who found it listed online and decided to buy and restore it. They invested several years and quite a chunk of change, but the result is nothing short of impressive.

“I first found the car at an autobody show in New Jersey and it was garbage. It was covered in graffiti, the windows were broken, the tires were flat, but I fell in love with it anyway. I said, ‘I’m going to get this car and I’m going to bring it back and restore it,’”  Michael Manning told Guinness Records.

At 30.54 meters, The American Dream is the world’s longest car by quite a margin, but its incredible length is just one of the many things that make it special. This ultra-long limousine features a large waterbed, a swimming pool complete with a diving board, jacuzzi and bathtub, a mini-golf course, and even a functional helipad for a small helicopter. Manning says that it has enough space to comfortably fit up to 75 adult passengers.

Although the world’s longest car is technically functional, you can only drive it on straight roads. Turning a 30-meter-long car safely is impossible on most roads, so The American Dream doesn’t get driven too much. It’s a display car and you can admire it up close at Dezerland Park Orlando’s Auto Museum in Orlando, Florida.
