Meet the Mysterious ‘Opossum Lady’ of YouTube

There is a whole world to discover past YouTube’s recommendation feature, and venturing down the proverbial rabbit hole will help you discover colorful and delightfully weird characters like Georgette Spelvin, the ‘Opossum Lady’.

For the past 10 years, the MEpearlA YouTube channel has constantly been putting up delightful videos featuring a glamorous lady that looks like a combination of Jackie O and Audrey Hepburn and a host of opossums that act surprisingly tame around their human handler. These videos range from how-to lessons on how to treat and deal with the large rodents, to eclectic theatrical pieces tackling topics like politics and religion. They all feature opossums though, as they are the main theme of MEpearlA. Aside from a dead squirrel that achieved enlightenment and became the center of a pseudo-religion, that is…

If you though Pearl was the human host of this amazing opossum-centric YouTube channel, you couldn’t be more wrong. No, Pearl, short for ‘Pearl de Sagesse de Sabaduria’ or ‘Pearl of Wisdom’, is the woman’s dead squirrel ascended to the rank of deity to whom all opossums have sworn devotion. In 2019, Pearl made a special appearance in a video titled “The Pearlestine Prophecy,” which shines a light on her religion, including the concept that you CAN take everything you own into the afterlife.

As for the charismatic host of MEpearlA, she is known as Georgette Spelvin, most likely a pseudonym, which makes sense considering that she describes herself as nothing more than a vessel for Pearl, through which the deity spreads wisdom from the other side.

Apart from her activity on the MEpearlA YouTube channel, Georgette is a mystery. Who she is in real life, what she does, but none of that really matters anyway, because it’s her online persona that has gained the channel over 120,000 subscribers and a decent number of views over the last 10 years.

So if you like large rodents, a nice dose of chaos and eclectic comedy, do check out the MEpearlA YouTube channel, if you haven’t already. It’s fair to say that it’s unlike anything you’ve ever seen before, in a good way.
