Have you ever considered making your prom dress or suit out of duct tape? No? How about for $3,000?
Duck brand Duct Tape have been organizing the “Stuck at Prom” competition for 10 straight years, challenging students to create original prom costumes using as much duct tape as possible. Competitors’ costumes are judged according to the following criteria: workmanship, originality, use of color, accessories and amount of duct tape used. The 10 best costumes are subjected to an online vote.
First place winners receive a $3,000 scholarship, second place gets $2,000, third place $1,000 and runners up receive $500. It may not seem like much, but in these troubled times any penny counts. And plus, you get to wear a cheap prom costume that will definitely catch everyone’s eyes.

The peace sign has to try before it can fail. Since it’s not something that can try, it can’t fail. Plus, they didn’t mess it up at all either, it looks fine.

actually, if you look it up anywhere on earth, it is the peace sign that has the line all the way through the middle and the Mercedes sign that is what is on their outfit. but its all good tho, no hard feelings.

Looks like they were trying for peace signs, if you look at their pose and the rest of the get ups. So, they made a slight mistake. They look great and so do the rest. VERY creative teens. Impressive when so many people give teens a bad rap about being video game and electronic junkies. Teens can still be artistic and creative. Way to go!!1
Maybe it was a mere positioning fail. It could be that the center line is on both of their sides, wrapped around. They could have mistaken the proportioning.

It would be a positioning problem if it was just the cooperative graphic that was skewed. However, every single graphic that is visible to us is a Benz logo.
Actually, the hippie costume doesn’t even have the Mercedes-Benz logo! The Mercedes-Benz logo is a 3-point star, and none of the symbols on their costumes have central elements that come to a point.

Uhhh Mike? Please do a Google search of a Mercedes Benz hood ornament. It is EXACTLY what’s on their outfits, which means they did a definite peace sign FAIL. The peace sign has one vertical line that extends from the top of the circle to the bottom, with two lines extending from either side of the vertical line towards the side of the circle.
You people need to learn your peace sign history, morons.
My prom date and I did this the first year (maybe the 2nd year) Duck Tape brand started the competition (2002). Coincidentally, I’m the 8th photo down (Shakespeare-style). It’s very cool to see that image still floating around in cyber space.
wow guys, a quick google search will show you the answer. The symbol neither a peace sign OR the benz symbol. A peace sign has a third line extending vertically that their symbol is clearly missing. The benz sign is a star that divides the circle into three equally proportioned sections. Their symbol, while it only has three lines, does not divide the circle proportionally. Also, the star tips do not connect with the outer circle, but the lines on their outfit do connect.

I was under the impression, as these kids clearly were too, that this was the original “peace” sign used by the campaign for nuclear disarmament. after a bit of research, i now realize this is not the case. dev put it best; it is neither peace nor benz. oh no, i guess they’re original! damn them for being a mild nuisance toward my obsessive-compulsive desire for everything to make perfect sense! damn them to hell!
The queen of hearts outfit did not use solely duct table, which, in my opinion, makes it pale in comparison to the others.

Ok seriously. You guys are more ignorant than the damn hippies if yall are still researching about their outfits. The peace sign was a FAIL. It does look more like a Mercedes Benz symbol. Not EXACTLY but “more like”. Obviously they were “trying” for a peace sign. So i doubt they would have researched mercedes Benz for inspiration to walk around at prom looking like a damn hippie colored hood ornament. Common F**king sense people. Use it.

I didn’t notice the Kaylee/Mal connection till Susie pointed it out! Excellent! Lots of creativity here, but …. didn’t at least a couple of these end up costing more in Duct Tape than the prize was worth? However, kudos to all for your imagination and hard work!
