In 2009, Busan’s Shinsegae Centum City dethroned Macy’s as the world’s largest shopping center, and it has been holding on to that title ever since. Of course, surpassing the size of this 16-floor behemoth would require quite an undertaking, both logistically and financially, and as far as we know, there’s no threat of that happening anytime soon.
Apart from nearly 700 individual stores, the giant shopping complex also houses art galleries, an ice rink, its own golf course with a 60-tee golf driving range, multiple movie theaters, a traditional Korean jjimjilbang (gender-segregated bathhouse), an office tower, and a public park with a quirky dinosaur and pirate theme. It’s so large that you literally need several days just to see everything
Interestingly, Shinsegae Centum City is the only store in South Korea to achieve 2 trillion won ($1.38 billion) in transactions for two consecutive years.
