Man Claims Sandwich He Ate Five Years Ago Has Been Causing Him to Fart Ever Since

A UK man who ate a festive ham sandwich at a Christmas market he was visiting with his family in December of 2017 claims the snack has been causing him uncontrollable flatulence ever since.

Tyrone Prades has been living a nightmare for five years, and he claims that it has all been because of a festive roll he ate at a Christmas market in Birmingham. Mere hours after eating the snack, Tyrone was hit by stomach cramps, fever, vomiting and diarrhea, and was bed-ridden for five weeks. That alone sounds like an awful experience, but it was only the beginning of his troubles. Ever since that fateful day, the 46-year-old man has been suffering from regular and uncontrollable flatulence that causes him embarrassment and stomach noises that wake him up in the middle of the night.

Five years after he ate the sandwich, Prades is suing the owner of the food stall he bought it from for £200,000. ($243,000). His lawyer recently told the court that months after his initial sickness subsided, his stomach was still making weird churning sounds and the excessive and uncontrollable flatulence never really went away.

“The symptoms are, primarily, fatigue and altered bowel function associated with ‘churning’ within his abdomen and flatulence,” the lawyer said. The claimant’s stomach continues to make frequent churning noises to the extent his sleep can become disrupted.”

Tyrone Prades’ lawyer added that the extent of his symptoms has been “life-altering”, with the excessive and uncontrollable flatulence making him embarrassed to go out in public.

Although it is believed that the festive roll Mr. Prades ate five years ago contained Salmonella, the defenders of the company operating the food stall, Frankfurt Christmas Market Ltd, claim environmental health officers only found e.coli on a knife, but no salmonella. Because the plaintiff did not suffer from an e.coli infection, they say that the allegation of salmonella must be proven.
