Citysope – Faceted Art

Created by Marco Hemmerling, a talented German designer, Cityscope is a faceted art installation, presented at the Plano8 architectural festival, in September. Located in Cologne, Germany, the installation reflects parts of the buildings around it, offering a frafmented perception of the surroundings.

Hemmerling describes its creation as an urban kaleidoscope that offers a different perspective on the environment with every step you take. Cityscope is covered by radiant foil that reflects images in different colors, depending on daylight. At night the surface of the art installation becomes transparent and it is lit from inside.

Exotic Delicacies

I must confess I’m a big fan of Asian cuisines, but these photos really kill my appetite. They may be crunchy and full of protein, bugs simply have no place on my menu. If you like’em though, you’ll definitely love these photos:

Pokemon Fanatic

Pokemon was quite a phenomenon a few years back. Kids were trying to collect all the cute monsters from the TV series and pretty much anything related to the popular cartoon. This girl took the the Pokemon motto “Gotta catch’em all” seriously and I think she just may have pulled it off. If not she came pretty close, just look at all the Pokemon and Pikachu stuff she managed to get her hands on. I guess she could open her very own Pokemon Museum, or make a fortune selling it to other fans who I’m sure would love to add to their own collections.

The Pokemon-mobile is by far the most impressive item on this fanatic’s collection. Nicely done, I guess…altghough it is a bit scary.

Lalibela

If you’re planning to travel to Africa, you might consider visiting the Ethiopian city of Lalibela, where you can find the only rock-hewn monolithic churches in the world. Built between the 12th and 13th century, the town of Lalibela was meant to be the new Jerusalem, after the Holy City fell to the Muslims, in 1181.

The 13 churches are either carved in vertical cliffs, in natural caves or right into the ground and separated by trenches. They were all hand-carved by the Ethiopian Orthodox Christians and the technical details are studying material even for modern architects. The churches of Lalibela are all connected through tunnels and the trench system transports the water to the nearby River Jordan. Anyone who knows the heavy rains that fall in Ethiopia, can appreciate this evacuation system.

All the religious structures of Lalibela are named after buildings in Jerusalem.

Pen-covered Mercedes-Benz

Costas Schuler saw a book about art cars 5 years ago and was fascinated by them. He knew he wanted to make one of his own but didn’t know where to start, until one morning he woke up and knew he wanted to do something with pens. So he started covering his old 1981 Mercedes -Benz with pens, and he’s been doing it ever since using pens donated from people all around the world.

Costas is known as The Pen-Guy and his car is called Mercedes-Pens and together they travel the country collecting pens and putting smiles on the faces of those who spot them. The Mercedes-Pens is now covered with over 10,000 pens both on the inside and the outside.

For more info on The Pen Guy and his creation, visit his official site.

Bunny-Rabbits in Moscow

“Love Us, Don’t Wear Us!”

This was the message of the two bunny-rabbits  that caught the attention of many people in Moscow’s Theater Square, on Monday. They were members of PETA and by dressing up as sexy bunnies, they tried to convince people to stop wearing natural fur and start dressing up in artificial fur, that is just as beautiful and comfortable.

Lauren and Lisa smiled and faced the cold weather bravely, proving they don’t need fur to keep warm. They only covered their bodies with bunny ears, undies and fur-free signs, both in English and Russian.

The guys at Emosign came up with an innovative idea to improve our sitting pleasure. The Evolution One custom chair is a leather chair that comes with beautiful custom wheels. The car rims are just for design, they don’t help the chair move but they do get the imagination going. Take a look at these beauties:

Rotating House

Environment is a very popular issue nowadays so environment-friendly houses are finally becoming interesting. Domespace invented their semi-spherical houses over 30 years ago but only a few of them have been purchased and only around France, especially in Brittany, where the company is based.

The Domespace house plans were designed to optimize warmth by natural means, so the house actually turns to follow the sun and gain as much energy as it needs to keep temperature at an ideal level. If you don’t want warmth and sun-rays you can just set it to turn its windows away from the sun. You can command the engine to turn the house at a certain time or program it to do a full day rotation.

These days Domespace houses only come with an engine, but a few years ago if you wanted to buy or rent a house, you had to move them manually. I can imagine such a house for lease: “It’s a great house, spacy, full of light…only thing is you have to turn it yourself”.domespace_house.jpg

The Dream Controling Machine

Watch a cool video of a cheap, easy-to-make and fully functional dream controlling device that will chase away your every nightmare. It’s, well…everything you ever dreamed of.

The Lucid Dream Machine, gives you the ability to take control of the action in your dreams without waking up, it’s like your awake inside your dreams and fully aware of the fact that your actually dreaming.

The machine works by flashing two red LEDs in your closed eyelids while your sleeping, these make your eyes receive light, and send the information to the brain making it alert but not affecting your sleep, you gain consciousness and wake up in a dream. Once you hit that point you can do whatever you want here are some crazy examples : fly, jump off buildings, skydive, have sex, eat cars, imagination is the limit !

You have free access to the natural reserves of Adrenaline and Melamine which your body holds “people often take heavy drugs like “Methamphetamine” to unlock these magic potions” .

Hunterville Huntaway Festival

Hunterville is a village in New Zealand, established in 1884 by George Hunter and that according to the 2006 Census has a population of only 440. But that doesn’t stop it from gathering huge crowds from all over the island for the unique Huntaway Festival.

The Huntaway is a fun festival featuring contests like the Dog Braking Contest, pig yarding, speed shearing and the main attraction, The Shemozzle. This a special obstacle race for men or women  and their dogs, across steep hills, slipery slopes and disgusting food-stops that include sheep eyes, worms, bugs and raw meat, just to name a few.The obstacles of the Shemozzle are evealed to the contestants only 3 minutes before the race so no one can say they are really prepared.

The Big Eat 2008

British love their minced meat pies so much, they actually invented a contest to see who can eat the most pies in ten minutes time. Kind of like the American hot-dog eating contest, only these minced meat-filled delicacies are a lot harder to gobble-down.

This year The Big Eat took place on November 18, at Wookey Hole and it featured only British contestants. This after in 2007 American Sonya Thomas crossed the ocean to rob the Brits of their pie-eating title. She managed to eat 48 pies with the runner-up managing to swallow 15. This year the organizers wanted to have an English winner so only natives could register.

Denzil Gunner claimed the top prize this year with 41 pies. He got $1000 and a trip to the USA to participate in their various eating contests and, hopefully, humiliate them on their own soil.

Scarriest Dog Photos Ever?

I remember seeing one of these photos on some random blog a while ago and I remember thinking “man I wouldn’t want to be in the shoes of the guy that pissed this dog off”. Today, after looking at the rest of the photos I realized the dog wasn’t angry at all, that’s how he expresses himself when he’s playing with his balls. Well, not his balls, balls…you know what I mean and if you don’t, just take a look at the pics below:

The Dog Car

Remember the movie “Dumb and Dumber” starring Jim Carey and Jeff Daniels? That was the first thing that popped into my mind when I saw this puffy treasure. I remember that goofy car of theirs with the red tongue sticking-out and this is comes pretty close. My compliments to the designer. Here is the Dog Car:
