The Margay is a solitary wildcat with some very unique characteristics. Its look alone make it stand-out although it is very solitary people rarely have the chance to see it. The Margay is one of the few animals in the world that can climb trees with their heads facing down, thanks to their very special joints, able to turn up to 180 degrees.
The Margay is on the endangered animals list, but no one really knows how large their population really is between Mexico and Argentina.Margays don’t take well to humans invading their habitats and sacientists say they are so well adapted to life in trees that they can go their entire lives without touching the ground.
Like all cats, Margay see very well at night and have no problem feeding of birds, reptiles and squirrels, if they can catch them.

Interesting subject, and wonderful pics, but no credit for the pics which look professionally done, and the rampant grammar and spelling mistakes make what could have been a great article absolutely painful to read. Have someone with more developed English skills proofread your copy before posting.

Perhaps I *do* take it a bit too seriously at times, but I’ve watched over the years since the inception of the Internet and, later, Text Messaging, as spelling and grammar have taken a nose dive. Being able to effectively communicate ideas is the cornerstone of any advanced civilization, and our growing unconcern for it, and defense of those who do not have the skill deeply concerns me. Recently, grievous errors of this nature have become more commonplace in mainstream print (I’ve seen 3rd grade level errors in the New York Times and Wall Street Journal lately) as well, so it’s no longer ‘just the Internet’ anymore. For an educated person, reading a block of text that breaks dozens of rules hammered into us by teachers and professors *is* painful. However, as said, the article *is* interesting. After all, I liked it enough to take the time to comment, as well as return later. Those felines are adorable…in an inherently evil sort of way, no?
Remember.. knowledge is power.
I notice that most of the mistakes have been fixed, too.

Numbers 7, 8, and 9 are all of Julian, one of the three Margays that I cleaned the cages of at the Exotic Feline Breeding Compound in Rosemond, CA. He is indeed, a very handsome example of a Margay. I love cats of all shapes and sizes myself, and stumbled upon this site. I also had an amazing idea after seeing these phenomenol images of these cats. In ancient Egypt, there was what is known as the eye of Ra. Many of these images show heavy black lines in just that shape around these cats eyes. Knowing as well that Egyptians saw cats as sacred, it isn’t a far leap from there to painting their own eyes with kohl to achieve this look. Whether they are actually connected or not, I’m not sure, but definitely was a cool thought to have. Great images, thanks for the article on the margays!
